Issue I'm having
« on: June 13, 2010, 09:25:06 AM »
I seem to be having an issue.  A lot of times my ball is hooking too much and hitting Brooklyn.  I normally stand in the center and throw the ball over the second arrow.  If I start my line farther to the right it seems like it doesn't hook enough.  I currently throw the reign of fire.  I know some people have told me is ball isn't the best choice for a beginner.  Id like a few suggestions on what ball would be good for someone just starting out.  Perhaps I just need to keep playing with the ball I have but I cant seem to figure it out.  Any advice would be helpful.  Thanks

go to the proshop where you had it drilled and have him watch you throw the ball.. let he/she know where you ball and what type of lanes and what the shot is like (dry-oily).. the proshop should be able to help you decide if you can change the surface to help your problem.. to me a good beginner ball would be a urethane ball(to learn how to roll the ball) or a low lever reactive ball.. good luck, slashrr69

 Mpotapa,

Yes, the ROF is a pretty aggressive piece for a "beginner", but it is also a very good, very versatile ball.

That being said, it sounds like a classical case of not having the right piece in your hand for the condition you're playing on. Having your ball run brooklyn, then seem weaker when you move towards the outside, is a sign that the ball is too strong for the condition.

You either need to use a weaker ball on this condition, or find a way to weaken the reaction you're getting from the ROF. You can help this situation by adding polish to the ROF, which will help it go a bit straighter. By altering the surface to a finer grit before polishing, you can help weaken it even more.

If you choose to do this, and still find that it is too strong, you will need something that is naturally weaker than the ROF.

Have you tried moving everything left? If you move your feet 5 and your target 3 to the left, what happens?
