Beginner meaning........never played before? Be more specific..however, these are good beginner balls (based upon my definition of a beginner)

The assumption above is that one wants balls that hook less or that the bowler nees help getting down the lane!  I agree if that is the case.

If the person already hooks the ball and plays on medium or heavier oil in league I think the Brunswick Smash/r is a very controllable hard hitting ball.

Lucky, .....thus my first comment....

"be more specific!, ...what do you mean...beginner ? That's why I gave him those ball choices.  Plus, I hardly think a Smash/R is a ball to recommend to a beginner, do you ?  Learn the game first, ....then start progressing.

Somedays I consider myself a beginner.

The smash/r is just so smooth for medium oil.

Anyone who hooks in our wetter house will love it.

It hook just right on a medium wet league condition.

Not too little and not too much!  Just right, the goldilocks ball!

I'm thinking of buying a 15 pounder for my son, he's 10!  I'll save it for him.
PS he uses a black stinger which is a wonderful ball for beginners!

Don't get me wrong Lucky, I understand where you're coming from completely.  However, if Vile10 is a total newbie, or the person he's asking this for...he/she may not even understand 1/2 of your post above.....see what I mean ?

Oh, eh veh!

ALl I mean is this.

If he throws slow and bowls on medium lite your selections are great.

If he already has speed and medium heavy oil, mine is great!

Oilier with good speed Smash/r
Dryer with slow speed, yours!

PS I fibbed above.  I have a navy stinger for my son, dryer lanes and a black solid stinger for oilier!  sort of like choices above!

Yeah, i agree with jeff.  You need to be a little more specific.
Example, if you are new to the sport and want to get seriou, I would say that you want to concentrate on the mechanics more than the ball, so I would just get a get a cheepy for now.

I would say that the groove line by brunswick, or scout by columbia would be good choices, because you will still be able to use them even as the mechanic of your game get better, and you decide to buy one of the "top shelf" balls.

In my humble opinion, differs a little from Jeff and agrees more with Lucky, maybe try a low cost medium ball, used is not a bad idea either ask your ball driller. Also ask for a medium drilling. Most ball drillers believe in weak ball drillings as well for a newbie.

I do not understand the point, starting with a ball that has very low reaction with a newbie. Although most people advocate to this idea. For me it goes against the grain. Vile will have something in the middle of the range and can always go back to the house ball for a less reaction if he/she needs it.

I think Jeff game a smart opening opinion given the information (or lack of provided)  Also, don't forget that "beginner" ball that emphasizes learning skills vs. over-reliance on ball technology will still be a good ball to keep in the arsenal.

I don't regret starting on my Scout at all.  I would also think about adding the Storm Ultra Hot (while you can still get them) to that list.  It is a good consistent ball with a bit more reaction.
