Proper fit
« on: September 26, 2008, 01:50:32 PM »
Ok I know all of the things about getting fit properly by a qualified driller and all but I have a situation about mine. The first time I was fit was just last year and since then my span feels very short. I have much more bend in my fingers than before and it feels like I am griping the ball with my fingers not so much with my thumb if that makes any sense.  Since this has began I feel that I'm losing ball speed revs and acuracy and my bowling as of late pretty much says that. My question is how would I go about not telling my driller how to do his job but get a better feeling fit and no so short. Also my PAP is roughly 5.75 over and some up but I don't know exactly tape measured would going to a more stretched span change this at all? I throw right handed 15 lbs 15-17 mph I'm on the low end of the cranker side.
Thanks in advance for any help.. and I hope that this is taken seriously as my other attempts for advice have gone very bad so far.

Just get a reputable ball driller to measure you up and see if your ball fits correctly. Maybe the gripping with the ball is something to do with the inserts, I used to have the oval inserts, then went to the lifts and it seemed to to wonders to my fingers.

You can do a rough check on your span.  Insert your thumb in its hole and lay your fingers over their holes with your hand relaxed but slightly stretched.  The edge of the finger holes closest to the thumb hole should fall roughly half way between the first and second finger joint for a relaxed fingertip fit.  --  JohnP

It could be that you only need a slight change of thumb pitch. Have a pro shop/ball driller watch you play, and/or have your hand measured again. It could be that you just "developed" your normal release after 1 year, and that the initial drilling is now a bit off, so that only a minimal change might be necessary to make the ball fit properly again. A thumb slug with a different/approriate pitch could be the cheap and quick solution.
