Title: reccommend ball for wifey
Post by: cav on March 04, 2013, 11:19:36 AM
She has a Freeze that is drilled to really skid and flip (and it does!).....I'm looking for a 13 lb ball that is a little tamer. Something that will go longer when the lanes dry up.

Tropical Breeze or a Scout/R would work.  Tropical Breeze has a weaker cover and core and the Scout/R has a weaker cover and a pancake weight block (same as a plastic ball).

Just a thought....but have you tried knocking the polish off the Freeze to help smooth out the flippiness?  Or....does she like it the way it is but just wants something else for when it is too much?

Just because of the high rg and polished coverstock, all the low end, entry level stuff is going to be prone to skid/flip to begin with.  And honestly, with stuff that low on the totem pole, drilling doesn't really have much to do with it.  You might actually look into one of Brunswick or Storm's urethane balls.  The new urethane hooks more than the old urethane (but still hooks a fair amount less than the Freeze), and is the smooth type reaction.  Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot of room under the Freeze, so TwoHand has given you some good information, I'm just adding another point or two.

I drilled my wife a 13lb Grape Vibe and it's been to much ball for slower ball speed! I drilled a Storm Tropical Breeze Hybrid and she can roll it without moving her feet a bunch! The ball hooks more than I thought it would and hits really good, but it's under her Vibe!! I can't believe the performance for the price! I ordered me a Breeze solid and I drilled her's with the pin in the ring finger with cg kicked right and a low weight hole! So of the guys we bowled city tournament with was amazed at how the Breeze rolled for her!

One ball that has caught my eye for the  low rev and low speed player, has been the Hammer Arson Low-Flare. It has worked in people's hands that I never thought it would and carries very well.
It's worth a look.
Good luck in your choice.
