Since when Bowling became so Difficult?
« on: February 07, 2016, 01:48:04 AM »
Burnt up Heads, lots of carry down due to straight traffic. What a bowler to do?

Can't get to the pocket. Moved left, then some more, then some more, looking for oil in the heads, where it was very little. But. There was a lot of carry down. When found dry in the back end, it did manage to find the pocket. But that was seldom. Mostly it hit an oil streak and sailed through to 6 or 10 or gutter.

Moved out with a Urethane and kept my hand at the back of the ball so it wouldn't jump. Never turned the corner. Brought the hand to the side. Either didn't make the turn or hit the 4 or 7 pin. Depended whether it hit the dry or oil streak.

Really frustrating stuff. As if I didn't know how to bowl. So much so I wanted to hang the shoes and started thinking about giving Snooker a shot instead of Bowling.

Any idea which ball/layout combination would blend the wet dry and carry down best.

Help, or I'm playing Snooker. That's it

Sometimes there is no substitute for being able to hit what you are looking at.

Hows your spare game?
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

Bowlersam (from Pakistan?), if you are bowling in a foreign country, you are probably not bowling with as many serious bowlers using higher tech bowling balls, mostly plastic, so you will see more oil pushed down the lane than being absorbed.  Accept the challenge for what it is. Work on your spare game to become the best spare shooter around.  When the conditions are better, you will get your strikes and your scores will be higher if your spare game has improved.

Remember, it's not about the high scores, but beating the field or the competition that day.  Your competition has to bowl on the same conditions.

This.  Even learn how to bowl on the 1/2 board which many are scared of and even if you never have to use it, it makes bowling on 3/4 much easier.

In my home house hit the 3 board get the 10 pin with your hooking ball. Try to play
down the 10 board no hook hit the 9 get a strike hit the 8 go high.  Averages down 15 to 20 pins across the house. I play on senior leagues there and the other players use plastic urethane rubber and some reactive balls. I pay on 2 travel leagues just to go to other houses and play different shots. Shot is better every other house. all I can say change houses and maybe you can find a shot that fits your game. Or change your game.

My spare game is not that bad. But, when ball or lane behaves the way they behave, one is bound to leave unusual spares and a lot of splits. 5, 7, 10.2, 8, 10 etc
That's the problem

Well, that may be, but it's also about feeling good about one's game. And even if I beat the lane mate, I some times feel lousy.

There are times when I can score better throwing a plastic ball straight then if I hook. I don't care about scores. All I care about how I feel after playing the night.

I just want to know if there is any ball out there which is designed for wet/dry or carry down? There has to be with all the modern equipment and science that goes in to producing balls these days.

Yeah, that may be a good advice for now. I'll try to find a way to fight these lanes. A different ball may be. Do you know a ball that can help?

Balls to combat wet/dry are usually smoother reactions like the Storm IQ Tour, Brunswick Brute Strength, Hammer Arson Low-Flare Solid

That's what I'm talking about. Thanks mate. That's awesome. I'll check them out and see whether they could improve my game.

Otherwise. There is always snooker or fuse ball :)

The condition you are describing is not wet/dry.  Wet/dry is when the ball over reacts to dry to the outside and under reacts to a large amount of oil inside.  The condition described is broken down with carry down, where the ball is not hooking if you miss right and taking off if you miss left.  Bowlers ware still searching for the magic ball for this condition.

What made it difficult in 1992?
