How to correct backswing (now with attached video)
« on: December 12, 2009, 06:07:36 AM »
I''ve recorded myself and noticed a potential issue with my backswing.  I''ve noticed that it looks as though my hand is to the side of the ball when going back with the ball.  At the apex of my swing, I can see that my middle finger is almost pointing at 9:00.  I would assume that this would be an issue because I am already to the side of the ball, and would have more side rotation than preferred.  I let the weight of the ball take me through the swing, but I somehow developed my hand being around the ball.  What mental or physical advice is there to over come this?  Thanks

Are you left handed?  If not, the MF pointed at 9:00 is well inside the ball.  --  JohnP

u just have to keep ur hand behind the ball in ur swing when u get ur hand around the ball like that it forces u to try and catch the back of the ball at the bottom of the swing and that will cause u to pull the ball alot

Thanks.  I haven't had too much issues with tugging, but I have noticed the difficulty bowling on med-heavy oil conditions with the rotation I have on the ball.  Not sure how, but I guess I just have focus more on going straight back with my hand.

what you are doing is letting your elbow/arm turn toward your body WHICH will cause you to have your hand on the side of the ball during your downswing.

on a side note, i notice that you have NO followthru at all. not sure if you are dropping the ball but a very important thing to have is when the ball passes your slide foot you should be accelerating with a follow thru. all the greats do this including norm duke, jeff carter, and walter ray (off the top of my head that are the most obvious)

the videos on nextlevelbowling.com REALLY helped me understand how as well as why to do certain things.
