New bowler questioning pro-shop's advice for weight of ball...
« on: February 18, 2007, 11:44:09 PM »
So... I'm a casual bowler, who probably goes two-three times/month... (avg 160 with the good 'ole 2-finger hook) so I don't know all the terms that I read around here (although I have read a few FAQ's... but when you're as clueless as I an even the faq's don't seem to make sense)

oh well... question time:

I've decided I'm tired of using house balls... talked to the pro-shop who suggested an ebonite tornado warning 15lb.... after reading online I've seen a lot of people recommend this ball, so going off of his advice I think I'm okay with that (unless someone just has a horrible review which I haven't read yet)....

but the 15lb is what has me wondering... I normally use a 12 and 14 (14 for single pin spairs)... I've read that a ball fitted for your fingers will feel lighter, but 3lbs?  I tried using a 15lb houseball yesterday, and gave up even trying to hook it... ended up with an embarrassing 103, 93, 110...

I'm a big guy... 6'3 285, and had a few guys saying i'd be crazy not to get atleast a 15 and some even suggesting 16....

I'd appreciate any feedback you can offer... thanks.

Vwinterr...

Sounds like you made some good choices.  The Black Ice is a controllable ball but something you can grow into more than a Tornado.  Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask for help in the future!

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...
