target spots
« on: May 28, 2005, 08:56:56 AM »
I have always used the arrows but recently I tried the dots between the foul line and the arrows. It helped with toning down the loft I had but the rest of my game was haywire. Looking for some tips on where you all look and how you came about using that as your target.

I use the dots because I think of it this way, is it easier to hit a target that is closer to you or farther away from you.

Agreed but remember this, there are infinite different ways to hit the same mark at a different angle. You need to make sure you are lined up with your Breakpoint that you want to hit. I aim at the arrows because I always have done that, but the dots may be easier for you. Just remember that it takes more than one point to make a line, make sure you are LINING UP, I can't emphasize it enough.

Another trick using your eyes. If the ball is hooking too early, try looking down the lane, this will help you push the ball further down, delaying the hook. If the lanes are not hooking, look at the front of the lane, this will help you set the ball down faster and get into an earlier roll, good for oily lanes.

This is rather late, but...if you watched golf, I think it was CBS who first came out with "ball track"..it showed the ball in several positions before it went in the hole ( putting), ESPN has done something like it last season, showing the track of the ball.

Anyway, that's what I have done for a couple years, I'll look at the dots, imagine the balls movement to the arrows and then down the lane about 25-30 feet, those three 'spots' are my targets. I can't say I hit them all the time, but that's my spot.

I think we all have different places we aim at, but as stated above...HIT the mark. That's the biggest fault we all have. Consistency, to me, is the key for any sport, be consistent. You can always move in / out / left / right, just be consistent.
