trying to improve

I have the basics down on throwing a hook but I dont have any idea what kind of balls I should buy.  Im not a great bowler but house balls dont cut it.  Thanks!

I guess I throw at a medium speed(never been clocked)and the lanes are lightly oiled.  I dont have an extreme hook but I am also open to suggestions and tips on technique

Are you in a league?

If you are ask your team mates what ball they throw and what they like about the ball and the company that makes it.

Is there a Pro shop at the lanes you bowl?

If there is then go in there one day and talk to the guy. Tell him how you throw the ball and your average and ask him to suggest a couple of balls for you.

These sites all have ball selector tools that may help you get an idea what balls to start looking at.

Brunswick site http://www.brunswickbowling.com/balls they don't have a ball selector tool but the site is just damn good when you don't know a lot about bowling balls.

After you get an idea of what is out there you can come to this site and read reviews about the various balls.

A lot of sites break the balls down by performance. If you are just starting out you should probably look at the mid performance lines on any of the sites above.

The list above is just a place to start there are a lot more ball manufacturers out there.

Banshee Line
Hot Rod Hybrid

Fired Up

Those will give you a place to start.

As said above, talk to some of the others on the League, they can make suggestions based on what they throw and maybe help you by watching you throw a few. If someone is really nice, they might tell you to throw their ball so you can see what one does. At least it's a start.

Don't go out and buy the biggest and best, just because it's the biggest and best, get something YOU can work with and next year or so, then step up a notch if you feel you are ready and want to.

And the Brunswick Reactive Pearl Power Grooves (though ugly) make good starter balls for light to medium conditions, too.
