A couple videos. Please help me.
« on: December 23, 2009, 01:55:10 AM »
Hey guys, I have a couple videos here. I just got back to bowling normal again after breaking my wrist 6 months ago. (still not healed) I''ve been bowling terrible. There''s no other way to put it. I hate how I bowl and coaches suck around here. Now I find this weird. My approach, although I walk a little crooked, how I bowled in 2007, is thousands times better than my approach now in 2009. Take a look and please evaluate. I can use any help I can get. Beans and I are also working together too and I thank him for the help he''s given. I''m trying to make it work.

Approach of 2007 (4 steps)

Approach of a week ago (5 steps)

^^^
if that video doesn''t work, give it time. It''s processing.

Thank you in advance.

Looks like you have late timing, your feet are already done sliding and planted at the line by the time your shoulders are closing to lay the ball down.

I concur  but it is really hard to tell just by watching one ball from the backside. On your second step it looks like you are bringing the ball up a bit higher that could cause the issue with the timing being off. On the 2nd step just let the ball fall freely don't lift upwards see if this helps get your timing a little closer. The thing I have to watch from coming back after a layoff is fast feet. I have to remind myself to keep my footspeed in line with my armswing. Just some thoughts.

Ok.  First off, do not take this personally.  Secondly, bowling is not an exact science and there are many was to get it done.  Lastly, I am going to be critical, coaches should be honest, critical and helpful.

Go back to the 4 step approach.  Keep things simple.

Secondly, your arms swing is bad.  You are not letting your arm swing freely enough.  You are all muscle, in both videos.

With the 4 step approach, start the swing earlier.  Also lean a little bit more forward with your upper body.  Do not bend your knees as much, except for the last step.  In the 4 step, you were getting low too soon and it appears
you are short to begin with.

I can not comment on the release.  It is very difficult to have a good release without the proper form.  I can not explain the release any better
than Robert Smith.  Search for him on youtube.  He gave a demo with
different releases.

Now, I also believe in this firmly.  When practicing, do NOT just practice on one element.  Try to do everything right all of the time.  When you do this, then you will have a game with 1 frame done great.  Then, eventually, 2 frames done great and so forth.

Lastly, when the lanes are not done right, your scores are going to be
lower.  I do not care what ball you use.  I would suggest a
change of scenery as well, try practicing in different houses.

your timing is off. to get it in time my coach had me rest the ball ON my right leg and told me to move the ball as soon as my right leg moved the ball.

next thing you are doing is pulling the ball back. this is also why you see the difference in back swing direction. it is most likely going to the left as you are using your shoulder and back to get it that high. if you want it that high you should watch players like michael fagan or robert smith. they lean forward during their approach and then straighten out as the swing goes forward.

good luck

Thank you to everyone who replied so far. Everyone who said the timing is late, I will work on that. Icewall, thank you for your personal experience with this as i'm definitely gonna try that.

global900, I did not take any of that personally. I expected worse, honestly, because I feel I deserve worse. I will work on everything that you noted. Also, i'm not short lol, i'm 6'1".

I'm going to get some practice + new footage and will report back. Any other comments are welcome also.

Thanks!

I'd work on keeping your swing more in line with your body. You come around quite aways behind yourself, then sort of muscle your whole body into the ball, rather than letting just your arm deliver the ball. I'd also try to keep your shoulders more square in your last steps. Opening your shoulders to your target is good if you're bellying the ball, but opening on your last steps and then trying to close back up in an instant will be problematic. In a nutsehll:

1- Loosen up your arm, body, and approach, and let gravity do most of the work.
2- Keep your shoulders in a position consistent with your mark.

I feel that once you free up your delivery and stay looser, your timing should get back in line. Good luck!

To fix your timing-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoyRbBHXQOA&feature=related

Pause your video when your ball is at the top of your back swing. There is NO pro bowler that comes close to this. They keep the swing in a small swing slot from the begging to the release.

             &

This will also place the ball near your ankle.
As mention above your using to much muscle.
