Atlanta local kid with serious talent
« on: December 26, 2010, 01:32:30 PM »
I just wanted to share a local Atlanta up and coming player that has some very great things going on with this swing.  His family has helped him make a video to market himself to colleges (he's only 16).  You can't teach the amount of explosion at the bottom of the swing that he absolutely EFFORTLESSLY creates...with a surprisingly compact motion.

Enjoy...

Overall very nice, but there''s still some work to be done. I hope he has a coach!

Looks good. My 13 year old that likes baseball and karate and bowls about once a month has more natural talent.

I am not trying to be mean with this, but he is still pretty raw. He has the potential, but needs some coaching. The elbow bend/hitch in the swing is less than desirable for repetition. The thing he does in his swing makes it seem like the ball bumps out of a straight swing plane going through the front part of the swing. He could use a good deal more in spine tilt to get the ball more under his head at release. The triangle his body makes is pretty small comparing to most of the greats. The triangle being the lines created by the lower body during the post. Getting the ball under the head more will increase stability and leverage and will get the trail leg further out.

That has a good deal of information. Hope he keeps working and improves. Really wasn't trying to dissect his game, there are just 3 key points he could work on. And that is how many things I work on with my coach in our lessons. Hope it helps.

He has some talent and he will bowl for a college I am sure. He still has some work to do like others have said. That was not the smoothest motion ever but it is far beyond most. I hope he can get paired up with a good coach. If he does than he could go far.

Personally I think he does just fine.  He will naturally improve as he gets older because he already has the fundamentals to go far in the game.  Doesnt matter what you look like anymore as long as you are accurate and can repeat shots.  Lets look at some pros that are alot worse than this kid, look wise, and do just fine:

Eugene McCune: He just won a tournament throwing a ball 25 mph.  Not much to look at but he won because he could do it repeatedly and pretty accurate.

Ryan Shafer:  Stands up horribly at release (not recommended by most high level coaches).  However, he is accurate and can repeat what he does well.

The Traber Brothers:  Although not very successful on the National Tour, they have had better success on the Regional level.  Another example of nothing special to look at.  However, they are effective.

Kendle is ahead of alot of kids his age.  He is already on PBA patterns as the video shows and looks like he has a good idea what he is doing. Reminds me of another PBA Tour player from this area, Jason Sterner.  He was way ahead of others at his age and has come close to making a few shows.

Before I get flamed, just want to make it clear that all the people I mentioned above are very good at what they do.  My point was that you can have imperfections and still be among the best out there.  Keep working Kendle!!!  Go things lie ahead of you.

He throws the ball good. Seems to fall off his shot on occasion at the line, but that is common and easy to fix.

Like any sport anywhere, "it" is a dime a dozen. What you do with "it" will determine your place among others.

Thank you Steven...glad someone else sees the pure talent that is there.

I am amazed at what some of you are finding wrong.  The swing plane issue that one pointed out is no different than what Bill O'neill does...last I checked he's a pretty solid player.  Reality of it is Kendle throws it GREAT for a 16 year old, and does some things that can't be taught.  The little things will be worked out as he gets older.

looks pretty smooth to me and seems to generate all kinds of power.  Unfortunately, there are only a limited number of schools with the ability to offer assistance/scholarships.

Wish him the best of luck...

Yeah, ya'll are being pretty hard on the kid.  Only thing I really saw was his follow through, but Rhino Page follows through right in front of his face too.  The kid looks really solid.  The elbow bend and wrist flip at release is actually the way power players are being taught now.  The straight elbow and stiff wrist thing is being passed by.  The little elbow crank and wrist flip helps get more revs and also helps get the ball through the heads cleaner.  Watch some videos of the power pros, Chris Barnes, Bill O'Neill, Wes Malott, etc.  Slow them down and really pay attention and you will be surprised at all the "textbook" stuff they don't do.

And watching it again, they might move his ball position on the setup right a little bit so he doesn't have to circle his body on the pushaway and backswing, but you want to talk about some really minor tweaks.  I know I wish I could bowl like that.

The kid has a lot of potential and you are right, he's a kid.
It amazes me when amateur coaches see SO many things wrong with a person's game not realizing that one correction generally influences other parts of the game.
I am an Asst coach at Fresno and we would LOVE to have him on the team...NOW.
Anyways, keep the kid positive and he could go along ways.
