yeah he didn't seem at all nervous during any of the shots.

i would have strangled that dude in the hat who was standing on top of him, and giving him high 5's, and talking to him in between shots.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with the guy in the hat! When I've shot mine I didn't change what I normally did with my teammates! I think it helps you to stay loose when you do that instead of everybody not saying anything and stops bowling to watch! Just my $.02, Bruce

I have had the conversation many times before as to someone bowling on the pair next to a person shooting for 300. Do you continue to keep bowling to keep them on a pace so to speak or do you stop to let them complete 10th frame. I myself try to continue to bowl to make it as normal as possible for them, but I have talked to others who have said they would stop.

I think that starts going into the Respect thing you mentioned. In our league we always stop once the person is in the 10th frame going for the 300. I guess it depends on where you bowl and who you are bowling with. I know the hardest one for me is when I was shooting 300 in a college tournament, I had 36 lanes stop and watch me. Thank God I did shoot 300 :D

Id I see a guy next to me shooting a 300 or going for an 800, I tell bowlers around me to back off. That is always "old school" in my area to do that. i had the complete house stop one time when my next ball in league two years ago was worth $10,000 dollars, and luckily I struck ! Around hear (Chicago area) we always still stop and watch.

I'd agree with this here, especially if they were talking about something non-bowling related. That way, it doesn't make your friend start to 'think' about that next shot. That's where the problems and demons come in. You could stay distracted by something else, especially if that something else keeps you loose to where you just execute. Thinking about it invites hesitation/anxiety. The best antidote for that is to turn the brain off or get it off of that thinking.
That's why I've always said that my best 300 (my first) was in the middle of a tornado warning. After my 9th, 10th, and 11th, I always went to the door to see if it was starting to rain or look for a funnel cloud. It got my mind off bowling, plus allowed me to take my time and calm the nerves. Plus it helped me to gauge how much time I had before power would go off at the alley, invalidating the entire game! Luckily it didn't, and I pured the 12th, which went along with the 11, the previous 6 before that and the 7 afterward.
So sometimes that distraction helps, especially if it is not about your next shot.

when i bowled a 300 at a tournament it got down to the 10th frame and everyone started to get off the approach , i told the lane next to me you have been there the last 9 frames keep bowling, if its meant to be it will happen. Sometimes its more of distraction to change what was working and the bowler notices that entire place is quiet and watching.
