That's crazy.  A buddy of mine's grandpa always talks about setting those when he was a kid in Boston.  This is the first time I've ever seen what he was talking about.  I like how they leave the fallen pins so that you can use them to play splits.  Interesting.

I like the idea of shooting spares with the dead pins still on the deck.

IMHO...candlepin and ten pin are two totally different games! Don't be fooled folks, candlepin is the hardest form of bowling for reason! The highest sanctioned score ever recorded is only 245.

I find it so frustating I refuse to do it. None of the theory from tenpin applies. That said, if you're ever in upper New England give it at try. Just remember to check your ego at the door.

The hardest thing is to go from tenpin to trying to throw the ball strait on candlepin, its just about impossible!  There is no oil on the lanes so its not hard to spin that sucker across the lane and into the gutter  I would say 100 average is about the same as a 200 average in tenpin.

The alley in Cambridge Mass has both type of lanes, I've always wondered after a night of drinking if the employees have snuck a couple of 16 pounders down to the candlepin lanes

The thing that struck me funny about that place is the candlepin lanes are on the first floor, the tenpin lanes are on the second, no elevator...   Four ball bag for candlepin, 3 pounds max with shoes, 4 pound bag for tenpin, 65 and a sore shoulder

For those wondering.....let's just say it's not that hard to throw a straight ball through the headpin and only take out the 1 and the 5 pin!!  You heard that correct!!  The ball will go right through very easily!!

My mother's cousin was a pro candlepin bowler.  I believe he average was around 165 or so back some 15 plus years.  Been on TV and all of that.

Funny thing is, I remember the days when they had it on TV up there.  They were paying $1000 for the person that could pick up the lilly!!  Think it's hard to do in 10 pin.....try candlepin!
