Constructive Criticism
« on: February 11, 2014, 06:17:00 PM »
Hey Guys,

Been in a bit of a slump. Feel like I have been throwing it well but its not translating on the lanes. Just wanted to see if anyone could see something I may not since I see my game fairly often. All tips, hints, criticisms, etc. welcome.

Thanks.

Here are two short videos:

The only real issue I saw with your bowling is that you are using the wrong hand... Other than that, looked ok.  ;)

looks like your ball is a little ahead of your feet.  Delay your push away a little and see if it brings you back in time.

What isn't working? Accuracy? Carry?
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

I haven't been as accurate as I'd like, and the lanes seem to be extra sensitive to my game right now. I tend to find over-under hell wherever I play on the lane and no matter what ball is in my hand.

Powerful athletic smooth.

Lots of speed and lots of hand but maybe speed dominant.

Not usually a description for over/under.  Sometimes new balls like the Black Taboo with highly reactive coverstock and pearlish can create a lot of over under on a harsh wet dry.

I've gone to all solids because my center turns highly reactive assymetric pearls into wet dry central.

Changed balls lately from duller or more solid to the ball you are throwing in the video.

Your timing looks great from the back angle. Would need to see a side shot to confirm. The biggest issue I can see from that angle is how hard you pull the ball down in the down swing. It creates an inconsistent means of coming through the ball. One time you may come through the ball one way, another shot a different way. Since you take a 5 step, your first 3 should be long and slower which will create that shorter power step that every coach wants right before the slide.

Also work on relaxing the down swing. You don't want to muscle the swing. The only portion of the swing with any muscle movement should be at release when you rotate. Right now, you are in time until something takes you out of it. You slide then yank the ball down because it's impossible to be set and waiting on the ball without grabbing. That is where your accuracy is faultering.

Also, being a fellow lefty that is hooking the ball and playing further right, you may want to consider drills that get the ball into a roll earlier as you move inward. In the case of righties, they move in because they've created bump to the outside and are taking advantage of oil inside. We do the same, but with a lot less traffic, so we cannot create our own area as well. So while they move in with something that flips on the back to get the ball downlane to the dry that is created, we still may need some surface as we move into the puddle.

Biggest problem I see is you don't know how to shoot the video in landscape mode.

 ;D

JK, mechanics look really good...a little too much arm in the swing, but other than that you have good fundamentals.

I'm not a certified coach...

but it seems like you're not letting the ball drop smoothly - on its own gravity. (i could be wrong) Kinda putting "umph" on the down swing a little early. Kinda like a reverse punch in karate..tense up too early, the punch may look good, but it's not effective. think about bruce lee's one inch punch, arm is relaxed until the last inch - boom! lol

Accelerate at release point to follow through..

you pull the ball down try push it out and let it drop should help out your timing
