My video....
« on: August 08, 2007, 09:56:57 AM »
One note, please keep the comments on my bowling form, the shots were taken during practice and I was tooling around about where to play on the lane, I would appreciate if the comments were directed at my form only. Thanks!

I think you're trying to control the ball more than you have to in your swing.  The ball should be moving with gravity, not with your muscles.  Once you push it away, let it drop and fall up and down into your release point instead of you trying to over control the speed.  Another thing I notice is that you let go of the ball a little too late.  You can reduce loft by letting go earlier, like in the downswing, not back on the upswing like in the video.

Generally you look pretty smooth. I would say you need make sure your front foot is straight at the line - it tends to move around too much, also try to keep you back legs down that should help with your balance at the line.
Last when you are releasing your body tends to bob up, try to keep it down.

Thanks for the comments, I'm not sure what it is but in the film i've gotten of myself I never slide that much and have the weird wobble with the foot at the line.

I've finally got some other things worked on so I guess thats the next step. And a minor note, the lanes were pretty dry so I was adding a little loft but I do tend to loft the ball a little too much.

Thanks for the comments though guys, positive or negative they are all welcome!

As thewatcher said, you are late with your timing.  On a 5 step, the ball should move on the second step and be kept in motion, a free loose armswing.  Late timing may also be the cause of the wobble on the final step, and being off balance at the line.

Thanks for the comments ThongPrincess and Thewatcher. I had watched the video plenty of times and never really looked at when I started the pushaway and such. And in fairness the swing is not muscled much and it ends up the timing at the release is very good for the late pushaway, but its another minor thing to work on.

All comments are appreciated so please keep them coming!

Hi Mike,

The one glaring thing I see is your left arm. You're not utilizing it enough to help your balance. It starts low and never settles near the same location; sometimes it's behind you, lower to your side and a few times it's at a good shoulder level. Your better shots were 1, 5, 8, and 9. The others were all behind your back. Add that correction to not muscling swing and you'll be better off.

Check my profile to watch a video of me. Look at my right arm from shot to shot to get the idea.

Mike, some advise, NEVER EVER think about what your left arm is doing, it will only mess you up.

Not sure where you got that one from. Stephen Padilla from Kegel got me to think a little about my left arm. He is one of the top coaches in the country. I also helped a friend of mine straighten out his back swing by changing his left arm position. The left arm can be involved in more problems then you would think. I always try to keep an open mind on things.

I agree with scooter, I tend to lift my left arm behind me (makes it look like I am trying to fly like superman) this forces my shoulders down (making me bend @ the waste)

I get it out more in front of me, shoulders are MUCH better

good form i think.  I wish i can have a higher backswing like u but i dont but really dont see too much wrong with ya, of course i aint the poster child for perfectness when it comes to bowling but.  I saw a little bit of a drift in ur approach but nothing too bad.  dont muscle the ball so much. but other than that not bad at all.  Good luck bowling.
