How does my new push away look ?
« on: September 11, 2007, 02:19:10 AM »
I have this bad habit of pushing the ball out to the right. This makes my swing get away from my body thus causing my back swing to get behind my back. This new push away looks better to ME. What do you guys/gals think ? Does my swing look straighter ?

try moving your starting right arm position more to the right of your body.  This should help with a straighter swing and hopefully free up your swing some.  Think clock pendilum!

Yes I know its forced right now because its not natural as of yet. I need some more time to practice the new feel and then my swing will loosen up( I Hope ?! ) !
OHBowler... If I move it back to the right I'm moving it back to where it was in the first place. Right now the major concern for me is to keep my swing from NOT going behind my back. I can loosen things up when it gets comfortable.

Scooter one thing I noticed in my own swing last year by starting with the ball in front of you it has to go around your body to get behind you and that tendency will cause you to continue that motion and bring the ball behind your back on the back swing.  I started putting the ball on my right hip to start thus not having to go around the side of my body causing a more straight motion back and forward.

Very true.  The key for a straight, true arm swing for me is starting the ball to the right of my hip so that I don't have to wrap around my body -- I can start the ball in line with my shoulder and push straight away, then let gravity do its thing.  After my pushaway, I let my arm come back into the backswing mostly on its own.  I use very little muscle in the process.  This keeps my armswing straight and consistent.

This is not true for all people. Take a look at these PBA Pro's...

As you can see they have the ball at about the same position I do. nuff said !

Now here is a short slow motion video of the old me. You can clearly see me get the ball away from my body.

Compared to the new way here...

you are going the right direction with your swing.,Real good game,,very simple, easy to fix...

Take it just a step further.

Use the left hand a little more (for weight balance) and get your push away to go toward the center of your body...Just a little..By using the left hand you will free up the swing a little easier and by this you will not let the ball get to far away from your body on the down swing...
A couple things will get fixed by this simple trick..

You walk around the ball good so this will be easy for you to do.

Hey throwit,
You sound like Dell Warren now. LOL Push the ball slightly in and your body WILL walk around the ball. Its coming along fairly good now. Just need to groove it some more.

I'd like to see the 2 lines a little more parallel (edit). Looks like you are struggling to let the ball free swing, might be a few things causing that, such as squeezing.

Nice job BrunsNick ! When you say perpendicular. Do you mean my swing needs to go more toward my back ? I know I need to free up some but this change is hard for me to do. Makes me muscle the ball. I've always had a problem with keeping the wrist firm but the swing loose. Maybe I need more tape... but then I hang at release. WHY IS BOWLING SO HARD SOME DAYS !!!

Nick...If you have time do those lines on the video of the OLD me. The link is up above. Would like to see a comparison. Thanks a load.
