First time with Bowlers Map
« on: May 15, 2008, 06:42:20 PM »
So, I'm new to Ball reviews and was recommended this site for advice. Earlier this week my team and I went for coaching we were given a chance to use bowlers map and we found it very insightful. However i would like to get multiple opinions about my style and whatnot. here is the vid. all criticism welcome.  http://s307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/jackars/?action=view¤t=Fixmeisuck.flv

No worries, I use to do the exact same thing.  My hips would open up too much without me knowing and I'd send the ball right...never to return.  I would just as xxxrevs suggested, and try to get that arm straight.  I never was able to and actually on my downswing sort of pushed out and left and everything fell into place.  I wouldn't suggest this to you but whatever works works I suppose.  Good luck

Your foot work looks deliberately slow.  Doesn't look natural.  Because of that, your arm swing looks pretty controlled.  Let the ball drop into your swing.

id have to agree in some areas as well.

get into a rhythm that way you can get a free armswing. dont think about your footwork... only the first step or two... as the rest follows the time of your swing NOT the other way around... you dont want to control the swing and step to that... great timing comes from a free swing (a good tip is also to never muscle, not even on the follow through)

next i would start the ball on your side and get used to the feel of your arm swinging straight. at first it may feel like its actually going to the right of your body but thats because your body moves out of the balls way making you turn towards your target automatically. (no one is going to swing the ball into their leg! our brains just tell us to move out of the way hehe)

then i would experiment on ball height on your pushaway. this will get the ball in time with your slide foot. the slower your feet the higher the ball should start as this will make your swing take longer to complete... faster steps may mean pushing the ball out as apposed to dropping it freely.

other then that i wouldn't change any thing. your release looks solid... and you dont look like your drifting at all. everything looks repeatable except your swing because it is controlled and you can try all you want but NOTHING beats a free armswing when it comes to accuracy

Suggestion, try tucking your elbow into your hip/ribcage area this may prevent you from flying open causing the ball wrapping around.
