He bowled on tour a few years ago, and he's bowled in many a PTQ. As I understand it, he makes plenty of money bowling abroad and in high-level amateur tournaments here. He gave the tour a shot and didn't do very well. I don't believe it's a case of skill, he can't possibly have the success he has without being extremely talented. Rather, I think the competition was much tougher and he wasn't used to the way the conditions played and transitioned. When most of your opponents lead the transition or create the transition while you're merely following it, it's tough to get ahead.
