Help me fix my game please...

Ended last year at 218.  Now that this season has started I'm currently in a huge slump, so I figure now would be a good time to fix my approach, since I'm bowling bad anyway :P.

I have a very high backswing, and can't for the life of me lower it no matter what I try.  This, and my drifting left, cause my accuracy to be pretty bad.  If anyone has any good tips I would really love to hear it, as I really want to get my game more consistent.  Thanks in advance.

Foot work looks good.  Timing looks pretty good.  Backswing may be a little late but should not be a problem.  Your backswing is fine.  It is not throwing off your swing.  Problem seems that you are forcing the shot from the high point through the follow through, causing you to grab and tug or push the shot to the right.   Relax your swing through the follow through and you should be a lot more consistent.  Let the ball and gravity do the work.

+1 with Monroe. Forcing the downswing will cause bad shot to be UH! and good shots to be 10-pins. Although, I think you're forcing the backswing upward as well, allow it to be more fluid. Forcing it upward is what's causing later timing and then you have to snap downward to correct it. It pulls you off the shot either way. Just my. 02.

Yes, Paddiwan.  Let the force flow through you.

Your spine tilt could be a little less. If your shoulders are too far forward, it could cause several issues. Try changing that just a little.

Sorry I'm a bit late to this party.  I don't usually stray to far away from the Misc Non-Bowling forum.

You don't really drift left.  You actually take 2 pretty distinct steps to the left, particularly on your 4th step.  Your 2nd step also goes distinctly to the left.  The tendency to move left is probably due to your eye-dominance.  The "drift" is your natural attempt at keeping the target in a consistent line of sight.

Fixing the problem isn't terribly difficult - you just have to work on consciously stepping directly in front of your right foot with your left foot.   If you imagine your target 'pulling' you into itself, you'll get beyond that out-of-line approach and your targeting should improve nicely.

Make sure your slide foot slides directly in front of your plant foot. Mark Baker calls it filling the slot I believe (haven't worked with him in a while, but that was always one of my biggest issues).

Secondly, shoulders back. Keep your spine angle more erect and it will help you chase the ball through the front without having to fire it so hard, which creates over/under reaction.
