I'm having camera to hard drive problems. I used my wifes Nikon 210? digital camera and filmed myself bowling during some practice. She put an 8GB card in it for me so I taped a good 30 min. Now what? I brought it home, put the Nikon disc on my desktop, connected the USB, I see the video file on screen and am trying to transfer the video file to my hard drive so I can upload it to a video editing program. I click "start transfer" and nothing happens, the screen closes itself. The file size says 1.8GB, is it too big or something? What am I doing wrong? After watching the video of my game, I knew I had problems, but then it became computer problems on top of the bowling problems.......Joe

1.8 gigs is pretty hefty, but most recent computers should be able to handle a file that size.

It's my experience that video transfers to computer often require a Firewire connection rather than USB. Your camera probably has a Firewire port...it's small, rectangular, with two small nubs on the upper corners. The Firewire cables are available at Best Buy, but they're kind of expensive...usually over $20.

3. open the folder and your vid should be there.
4. right click and select "copy"

this is the best way.. don't go through the camera's transfer program.. 1.8 gb will take a few minutes to transfer

Another thing to try is to connect the camera via USB as before, and then open a film editor like MS Movie Maker or the like, and try the import function oft the software. Ideally, the PC recognizes the camera as an external drive, and you are able to work with the film - and if it is just in order to save it through the software on your HDD in a new file and/or format.

I connected the camera to my wife's MacBook, it went right on. Transferred into Imovie, and have been playing around, so everything seems OK. My wife then said, "Now are you convinced on buying a Mac?"

Glad to see you figured it out. Might want to look at a Flip Video though, would cost a little less then a New Mac.

I agree with your comment, but I do offer a slight twist on it, Kodak has a couple video cameras out now and they are IMO superior to the Flip Video's, though bang for the buck you can't go wrong with either.
