Back again with a longer shirt and newer ball
« on: February 19, 2008, 08:45:35 PM »
Took a couple shots of me throwing the twisted fury tonight... Pin over bridge and polished up...  I have tried working on staying down more and not lifting up at the line... Also I'm not sure how to go about fixing the drift... Its kind of wierd to me to walk striaght up and throw left...  What are some good drills to correct that??? Also been working on timing and things seem to be coming together well...

All critics welcome...

i used to drift just like that. the main thing that helped me was moving my eye target right(im right handed.) as soon as i did that, i walked much straighter. i was surprised how off my eyes were. try it.

Drifting is not the worst thing in the world. If you drift towards your target and you know that you are drifting, it should be fine. Alot of the pro's drift. It's the bowler who doesn't realize that he is drifting is when the problems start to set in.

*on edit* Thanks for the longer shirt!

Nice improvements over the last video.  I think you are ver sound at the line and are behind the ball 90% of the time and that is key.  I wouldn't do too much more, maybe just practice with what you feel comfortable doing.

Personally, if you want to swing the ball, drifting is mandatory.  Maybe not as much as you currently are doing.  You will not be very consistent with your release if you prevent a fluid pendulum swing.  If you are perfectly square at the line, then it is difficult to get the ball to follow a path that isn't straight up the lane.  You want your shoulders square with your target, and to accomplish that you have to slide toward your target.  It doesn't require much drifting but it will make you more consistent.

I will drift left first (RH) then back to the right toward my target when I get to the line.  My only problem is when I am all the way left and the ball return starts to get in my way.  I cannot think of one professional that plays a lot of area not doing this.  But then again, I don't really look at how much they drift.  It could only be a couple of boards and it would be hard to pinpoint.

Just as long as you can be consistent (one board adjustment at your start equals one board at the line) and you drift the same every time, you should be ok.

i'm confused spartan are u saying if u used to look at 15 at the arrows now u are looking at 12 or something like that???  I would think that that for me left handed i would want to look farther right like if i want to hit 12 i should look at 15...  so that would be me looking more right and maybe i need to do it more...  i feel like i'm going to drift more the farther i look left...
