Title: Looking for advice
Post by: tdub36tjt on September 10, 2007, 03:41:51 AM
I finally got a video uploaded. I'm throwing my resurgence all except 2 shots where I threw my Raid. Looking for advice on what to work on. Anything anyone sees as an issue. I have only been bowling for 2 years so I am kinda raw. Everything I have learned I have learned on-line or by watching other bowlers.

From what you have told me, you have never been with a coach? That should be a start, the posters here can help you a lot but that is no substitute for some 1on1 coaching help. But you do have a few of the basic down, your head looks steady, however you are off balance. Which leads me to believe your timing is off and/or your muscling the shot. When I say muscling, what I mean is your not letting your arm swing come through naturally, your trying to put a lot on it. That explains why your ball bleeds out on the back end, giving your weak hits, buckets and double wood.

did anyone tell u that u look like the chief (Himmler)

i think u should take advantage of the power step to put more on the ball, the last steps r too quick to put enough strength in the release

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

First thing i noticed was about a 80-90 degree release, makes the ball never get into a roll on any type of heavier patterns and ball reaction to be erractic.

Work on more up the back of the ball and trying to keep the thumb from going to around eleven oclock position to add another type of ball roll for you.

Keep your right foot down.
Keep your shoulders square.
Slow down... a lot.  Or people will call you Fred Flintstone.
I also noticed that you have so much speed with your legs, but at the last second, your arm suddenly slows down, as if to compensate.  Don't do that either.  Use gravity to your advantage and use gravity to move the ball once you have pushed it away.  Gravity never changes.

You stop your follow through too early. If you notice when that happens, the ball tends to not get to the pocket and miss right. Try throwing your elbow to your target so it is pointing down lane.

You're also falling off the shot. Hold your stance and get better leverage. I can't say for certain, but I think you're falling off because you are muscling the ball. Less muscle in the swing and hold the stance at the slide step.

Keep your feet slow, arm close to your body, and stay behind the ball.  Easy right?  When you slow your feet down, you won't have to wait for your arm to catch up to your slide at the foul line.  I think this is why you continued to pull every shot. (missed left of your mark).  When your feet are fast your release is messed up you can't stay behind the ball.  When you did get it to your target, or gave the ball any room, the ball couldn't recover because of your inconsistant release.
