Title: Looking for input
Post by: apocalyptic_rabbit on April 06, 2007, 11:36:45 AM
Few weeks ago I shot a video for some university applications.

Got their input, so I figured its time to go to the masses..

there are 7 of the 8 parts, you tube doesn't like part 7 for some reason

I don't normally comment on these videos because my game is far from perfect.

You have great roll on the ball but your swing is a bit puzzling. You seem to be pushing right and walking left which is getting your swing away from your body very quickly. You seem to get it all tucked in, though I would be concerned about the repeatability of an overmanaged swing especially on a condition that requires you to go more up the lane.

Ya I have been working on simplifying it a little, making it a bit easier to read.

For the record the vid is shot on a 39 foot sport shot, and all were shot with my paradigm

It appears that you have a very solid game/foundation and have potential to bowl at a high level.
The things that I noticed and personally feel need some attention.

Push away is directed out to the right this lateral movement requires some level of muscle to control. This makes you more susceptible to errant shots. A more natural and less managed swing plane would probably serve you well. Errors made in the pushaway are often magnified in the result.

Your posture at the point of release is a bit forward caused from excess bending at the waist. This forces your swing to be steeper and shortens the flat spot which often will cause a bowler to have an early release or grab it at the bottom.

The only other thing I can say is if I were one of the prospective universities that received this it would have been nice to see you use different parts of the lane to show some versatility. The main reason I say that is you walk straight in you first 3 steps and then turn to get into alignment with the intended ball path in your last 2. This leaves me wondering is that direction change ingrained into your muscle memory enough that it creeps in sometimes when it would cause problems.

Bang on there Re-evo, I got a list back from one school. here is what I got.

1.  Your left hand is coming off of the ball too soon in the push-away.
2.  You are lifting the ball upward in the push-away and should only push it out and slightly down.  By pushing upward it causes
you to be late with your timing.
3.  You are pushing the ball to the right and causing a loop in the backswing-push straight vs right.
4.  In your approach you upperbody is tilted forward 45-80 degrees forward and causes you to lose your balance.
5.  When you lose your balance you have to step up to the right.  When you head is in motion you will not hit you target.
6.  Your left arm is behind you body going almost straight backward.  It should be pointed towards the left wall.
