Making my swing straight
« on: August 27, 2009, 11:05:52 AM »
I was going to use new videos but these old ones still illustrate the problems I am asking you guys to help me correct:

1. How do I keep my backswing from looping too much to my left shoulder?

2. How do I clear my hip?

Some people have advised me to get the ball started sooner, but this only creates early timing for me due to the ball being near the height of my backswing by the second step. I'm at a lost as what to do, so I would appreciate some help on this thanks.

I agree with putting your right foot in line with your left foot on your first step. I made this change about 1 yr ago and my balance and accuracy improved. If you watch video of the pros, they pretty much all do it.

Here is Chris Barnes  explaining a 4 step approach. If your push away is on your 1st step you will clear your hips easier.

do it in slow-mo, then repeat a little faster and a little faster until you feel comfortable

I agree with the people who told you to start the pushaway sooner. From what I saw, you take your first step, THEN push the ball out. Pause the tape on your slide step. The ball is at the top of your backswing when you finish your slide. Now you have to use all muscle to deliver the ball. A coach will help you.
