Hey guys, haven't done a video since March I think. I've changed a bit. Before it seemed like I was over swinging the ball and it looped a little left at the top. I guess I eliminated that but I can't help but think how weird it looks now.

First shot is what I would consider a good one. Second shot is to demonstrate how badly I can grab the ball. I didn't do it on purpose, it's just what happens.  So after that I tried to release the ball sooner in order to prevent that. The result was the third shot. From what I see, speed went up a little and I got less revs(although it's probably what my rev rate should really be). So after that I was able to move right and the next couple shots were from there.

Although the rev rate goes down I think those last couple shots is how I should be throwing the ball. The bad part is it's only like a 200RPM, but I get a cleaner ball reaction. I was considering going down in weight so I will be able to get under the ball more. Either that or a wrist brace.

To save someone the trouble of mentioning it, I do see that the ball keeps slowing down at/near the release on my normal delvery.  The last 3 shots are when I really tried correcting it by releasing a tad earlier.  I think the hitch there is due to the thumb being in the ball too long.

i like the old form a lot more. if ur improving i guess that is all that matters but imo you had a lot more power and revs and those two create area and pin action. the loop thing ur talking about is ur body naturally projecting the ball to the right since u turn your wrist very well at the bottom.

I like the old form better too.  Your swing actually looks less free now, and you're losing a lot of power on the release trying to control the swing too much.  Sometimes it's better to do what comes naturally then to try and fit a mold.

Okay, so how I was bowling before was better.  Besides the loop and how high the swing went I would agree with you guys.  The swing then looked more free.  Honestly I'm not trying to control the swing like I am now, what I tried doing is stop helping the ball to keep it from going that high.

So there's a couple issues about going back to that.  The release is better and more fluid in that video, but I think it's because the ball comes off my thumb sooner like I was trying to say I should be doing in the OP.  I don't know about power but the rev rate is the same or a little higher than what I threw the first couple shots in the new video.  And last but not least, I think I forgot how to swing the ball like that now.  I could try a more rounded and pronounced push away.

Yes, my scores were higher.  I averaged 200+ and peaked so I was looking to improve, obviously that hasn't worked out since I'm in the 190 area now and the big games seem so few and far between.  Only shot 2 600 series' in 13 weeks of league this summer.

And yes, I know I was throwing it kind of poorly.  Those first two shots of the new form is basically how I've been throwing it all summer more than likely.  What kills me to watch is the ball slowing down for the release.

I don't really see how it's controlled from the beginning.  I still drop it into the swing.  The difference is the height of the swing and release in my opinion.  I'm guessing the lack of height is from lack of momentum which is why I mentioned doing a more pronounced push away.  But it seems like I've helped it up too.  Gotta figure out how to get things flowing again.

But no one sees anything wrong with the direction my swing goes near the top of it?  I guess I would need video of me playing straight to see if I still do it then but it just bothers me to see it more than anything.

My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, but your swing plane in this video seemed pretty darn straight.  If you have any "looping", it is very minimal and not worth the effort trying to correct if your end result is a major form change.  One of the best in the business loops a heck of a lot and he just won Player of the Year.

Get a little more aggressive with the drop and back swing and you'll find it again. You also have an old video to help you get back there.

In the old video in the top of the backswing you'll see how your hand opens up alittle. When you open your hand up there, you're also opening your shoulders which creates more of a power game.

heres the best piece of advice I could give.

If your fluid, can repeat shots, and control where you want the ball to go then forget about the loop.

its like my coach told me... you hear all the time dont drop your shoulder, dont drift, dont do this or that. but none of that matters if you can repeat it over and over again you're fine.

Thanks for the comments guys!  I will see what I can do to get that swing back.  It felt natural then.  Now what I'm doing also feels natural.  I will consult my driller about this because he's seen me bowl both ways, hope he can get me back on track.

Just an FYI, I've always squeezed the ball but in the older video the release was much better.  I'm also trying to figure out how I can stop bending the thumb yet still have a clean release, but I'm thinking my rev rate will be lower.

Yeah man.  Eat some fries, burgers, pizza, drink soda and beer while you're at the lanes then hit the gym  You could be rolling that ball with some more authority.

It might be worth hitting the gym, building up some core strength so you have a stronger delivery overall. I don't have much of an issue with anything there, it's now just a matter of time (and alot of practise) before you progress into a higher level bowler.
