Me Bowling
« on: March 29, 2013, 01:13:13 AM »
So I was a member here a long time ago, and some of you are going to know by the username who I am and if you don't, you'll know by the video below. I've been gone for a long time and I don't bowl anymore, but I'm bored and figured I'd stir up the hornet's nest. I've bowled exactly one time since July 2010, and this video is from that one time, which was September.

Ha, thanks! Losing 70lbs can make a man feel a lot better. I guess I showed all the guys on here who were making fat jokes back when I was a regular. How's this place holding up?

Form looks a helluva lot better than it did many years ago, though losing the weight has nothing to do with it really.  Good for you though on taking the time to slim it down. Hope you did it for you and not the many others though (i would hazard a guess you did it for you though).

This place will always be the same.....sad.

Ha, yeah, I absolutely did it for me. I did it without setting foot in a gym, too. I woke up one day and decided it was time, I changed the way I eat, stopped using salt and cut out most of the junk food. It took two years to get down to my current weight of 164, but considering I was 233 when I started I started, it was well worth the effort.

As for the form, I was surprised myself that after not picking up a bowling ball in over two years at that point, the timing and everything was still there. The only thing missing was the ball speed and revs but that's probably because the thumb and fingers are at least four sizes too big. Maybe hanging around here will give me the itch again, who knows.

Thanks for the comments, it's good to see some of the old crowd is still here.

Good to see you back, slim and trim!  Glad you made the decision to get healthy and stir up the nest once again!
That's the thing about losing a lot of weight, things don't fit like they used to, but in this case, it's a good thing.  Get the balls refitted and get back in the game. Form still looks pretty good considering you been out for 2 years.

Artimust! Nice to see you're still here. It's definitely a good thing, but having 40 pieces of tape in a thumb is not. In all honestly, all my gear is so old that it doesn't pay to have any of it refitted. I also really don't have the time, or interest at the moment, to get back into leagues. I went back to school in 2011 and I'm in my 4th semester, so I'm busy with that, plus I umpire baseball 6 months out of the year and that's one of the reasons I stopped bowling in the first place. Too much on the knees.

The house I used to bowl at is also closing in June, which means the only pro shop I trust won't be there anymore, so I wouldn't even consider drilling a ball right now. Maybe next year when I'm done with school I can get into a summer league or something, but it wouldn't hurt to bowl again once in a while.

yes, still here!  Awesome that you're busy doing so many good things, and it's all gonna payoff!  Maybe you might want to have that proshop plug and redrill one of your favorite balls before they close up, just so you have something to toss that fits properly when you get the urge to bowl.

I hadn't even entertained the idea of doing that, it's something to consider. Hey, I was scrolling through the member list looking for names I recognized. What ever happened to Ragnar and LuvThatWhiteDot, and Joe Falco?

Ragnar and Joe Falco are still here and posting, Rags mainly in the Misc Non Bowling, although he just got back into bowling.  Have not noticed LuvThatWhiteDot (Lisa?) around in quite a while.

Congrats on the weight loss.  Sometimes after a long layoff from anything we tend to appreciate it more when we return.  Hopefully there are years of enjoying the game ahead of you.

Ha, well that's good. He dropped the "Flogurass" from his username, that's why I couldn't find him. It's great to see who's still here from the old days, I remember when I left this place was in a huge decline as far as quality of content. Lots of political bickering. That said, it'll never be the same without Bones and ThongPrincess :(

notclay - Thanks. Yeah, it's been almost 3 years since I bowled seriously and probably at least another year before I'll have the time to even think about attempting to get back into a league. I hung 'em up mostly because it stopped being fun a long time ago. Maybe one day under the right circumstances, I'll be able to go out and just have fun bowling again.
