Me Bowling update (working on some things)
« on: February 16, 2011, 03:33:22 PM »

Working on a few things...
Slower feet
Letting the ball fall instead of pulling it down

and not sucking, which I still do

man, ur form and shape pretty close to me, and i can tell we have a lot of things in common.

the problem of letting it go instead of grabbing it or hitting on the ball too much.

this is what im currently doing:

1: back to no finger insert, that would be the first thing to prevent myself from hitting on the ball too much
2: i slow down during downswing, to get the right feel, i even go from gutter to gutter just to get the feel
3: i stopped landing the ball like a plane, instead i intentionally force the ball to fall off my hand, if u cant imagine that, watch Billy O on brunswick videos. I actually saw him doing it and it made a big difference after trying it.

few things i dont suggest u to change, slow down ur feet and swing straighter. ur footwork should be relative to the condition u r facing, walk faster if u wanna throw it faster and let ur arm coordinate with ur feet.

ohh and about sucking... cmon lefty, we all know its easier on ur side :P

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

It's really a slow my feet down because before I was basically running to the line, basically a more controlled tempo. Thanks for all the other comments something to keep in mind and continue to work on. I have a video just from the other week on my page for comparrison it's of the mission 2.0

As for being lefty and shot being easier... I hate this house I bowl in, the shot plays difficult for me or I just make it hard. When I got the recon drilled up I was excited because I thought I might be able to finally play straighter in this house, but as you can tell it's still stand right throw left.(but not to far left b/c there is 100% OB outside of 5). Where I got the ball drilled I threw it a few times on there house shot and first shot I stood roughly where I am in the video and watched it take out the 6 pin... I'd never been so happy to see a ball skate 60 feet in my life just to come home and watch it hook like this. Oh well I love the game and if I'm going to bowl it's here or drive 45 minuets.

I used to be decent at this game and over the last 3 years I've digressed a lot. I started bowling 7-8 years ago and my 4th year of bowling I averaged 195 or so In youth league shot my first 700 and had made some solid showings in some tournaments (top 15s). I started my first adult league and was averaging around 215 to start the year (in a different house with an easier shot) and I think finished with a 209. Sometime during the summer of that year I lost intrest, and started just going through the motions to bowl and developed a lot of bad habits over the last 3 years. A few weeks back I looked at a recap sheet and seen my average is a whoping 181 and it really made me question any bowling ability I have. That moment and multiple people just telling me that I could be a good bowler (guess they don't watch me bowl much) has re-sparked an intrest to be better at this. So im trying to get a solid day of practice in every week and use my 2 days of league as trying to show something for my efforts.

Our association tournament is this weekend so I will hopefully go bowl well and atleast feel like all the work I'm putting in will have something to show for itself.

Sorry for the long post.

i say, stay in the difficult house shot, its pointless to play on a wall

my house also has a bit of OOB when playing near the gutter, yesterday during my practice i let the ball go around 12, it hit the 2 board and took out the 10 pin only.

this is how i do it to get more room, i use a sanded ball, normally with pin down, to dry up the lanes outside, so later on i can miss outside

There are a lot of great bowlers in the house I bowl in and it shows when they go to tournaments. As long as they have a strong enough ball (shots pretty dry) they score well in houses with easier shots.

Last year the guy that would Singles hdcp at the Derby Tournament in Louisville came from our house and many people cash. Give some of them room and they score.

You throw the ball pretty good.

If you look at the first two strikes and follow the follow-through's path, notice on the 3rd shot where you pull it in and go through the nose, the follow through is more to the left of your head rather than your right. Mike Fagan has a similar path, and it does affect your angle if you have variance to it.

There is nothing so easy to learn as experience and nothing so hard to apply.

I tend to "roll" the ball or at least feel like im "rolling" the ball well most of the time.

But this is a idea that im really just now starting to try and get the feel for so every now and then I still really muscle one at the bottom or as early on the down swing. So as I bowl more and work on some things i'm hoping to limit the hammering on the ball to a minimum.
