Title: Need help with ball reaction
Post by: pfeinauer on March 11, 2013, 03:57:00 AM
Hey all,

This was a video I saw in another post, of a woman with low revs / speed.

The ball looks like it's rolling out in the backend.  I have a few bowling balls that do this also but not all.  What causes it?  Is it the ball itself, the drilling, or the way she is throwing it?

Roll out is when the ball uses all it's energy too early.  It is not necessarily a bad thing if you can use it properly, but you do tend to sacrifice some hit.  It can be caused be a lot of things, all of which will be accentuated by low ball speed.  In the video, I'd say it's mostly release (she's pretty up the back) and drilling (you can drill the ball to use it's energy faster or slower).  Faster speed or more axis rotation could be solutions.  Another common cause is too much surface for the condition.

In that vid I really only saw one or two times where the ball really rolled out pretty early/hook stopped. Slow ball speed can be an issue plus the dry down lane and how quickly her ball would jump off of the friction with her slow ball speed.

Another problem can be trying to cover too many boards.
