How Bad Am I?

Here's a new video of me throwing some shots. The most glaring thing to me personally, is my swing. It just seems like it's too far to the left, and in the last three shots at least, I know I was trying to fix it. Kinda looks like a Tommy Jones thing going on there actually. I was even trying to make my swing go away from me to exaggerate the feeling of getting the swing to go that way by holding the ball more towards my stomach and pushing away straight or towards the 7 pin. But as you can see not much changed except maybe you can tell I was holding the ball in a different position.

Can you try reposting the link. It does not seem to be working.

Works for me, too. The only thing that I really notice is your arm goes in front of your head, and a couple of times to the left of it. Try keeping it on the right side.

It's hard to tell, and you seem like a tall guy, but it doesn't seem like you bend your knees much at the foul line.

dont think you throw it bad, your swing is similar to mine...as long as you can repeat its not a huge deal...

Looks impressive to me!

As far as I can tell you're not coming behind your back to the left too bad on your armswing.  The one thing I've been working on lately is getting late timing with my armswing to the line, which may help you.  If you have a tendency to open the swing like Tommy Jones does it's not a bad thing (obviously, he's an amazing bowler), but your timing has to be just right to clear the slide leg in order to have a consistent release at your target.

I have to post an updated video of my game because I've made quite a bit of changes in the last few months but the late timing for me has really added to my game.

In the end with your video though, looks like a benchmark that I would coach off of!

Works now. Not bad at all. Pretty smooth to the line. Timing doesn't look bad and your pretty balanced at the line after release. As someone else mentioned though, I would work on the follow through. You appear to be getting what I call, the modern pull release. I have noticed alot of younger bowlers developing this release due to the extreme amount of oil in the middle of the heads. What this release is, is where your hand is getting slightly on the side of the ball and you then pull your arm across your body, which generates the revs. Basically, you are pulling the ball but get away with it due to the heavy head oil. This is why your swing goes across your body after release. This will cause you problems down the road when you encounter lightly oiled heads. If you have bowled recently and noticed you were missing your target left but felt you were making good shots, then you experienced what I am talking about.

It seems like I have sort of a Chris Barnes follow through going on.  However, when it goes left of my head is something I see as a problem.  I didn't notice that though, so thanks for pointing that out.  I will definitely have to work on keeping that on line.  For what it's worth, most of my misses are in fact inside and I do pay for it more than you'd think.  This is the house I bowl at mainly and it's not a THS really, as you can't expect to miss inside by more than two boards, maybe another or two more if you're rev challenged.  It's pretty frustrating when I miss inside honestly.  I bowl in a PBA league that's almost over and my tendency to miss inside is a killer for me.  I'm also only average 170 if that but there's a lot of factors that went into that besides just missing in.

Also, my open hand or whatever you want to call it at the top of my swing is completely subconcious.  I feel like that's the main thing making the swing go behind the back slightly.  As far as I can tell, it doesn't restrict my ability to play up the boards which is a bit confusing since that swing plane seems like the ball would want to go towards the right.  I looks like I have to correct it at the bottom.  Maybe it's not something to worry about, I just don't like how it looks lol.  I like the figure 8 better.

Thank you very much for the help and compliments guys.  Any other thoughts?

I can't see much wrong with that swing.  There is very little muscle involved in it at all.  I don't think its too far to the left either.  To me, it looks like a bit of a figure-8 swing....nothing wrong with that.  Look at the success Wes Malott is having with that kind of swing.

Only thing I would say is try to get a little more ball speed....other than that, if it works and you can repeat it, stay with it.
