i had the same problem, i used to stay too close or stay too far with each approach, i dont know if making 5 steps would help you, cuz everyone is different
if u think u dont have time to push the ball, then u can get more time by addin one more step. it feels weird at the beginnin, i cant yet change to 4 steps at will, thats why i think its the same its hard and takes time to get used to the 5 step
footwork is important, everytime i hit the mark and the ball goes to somewhere i wasnt expecting, i check where i end up at, thats why i stay on my last position after the ball hits the pins. this will allow me to adjust in the next shot
