Since there's always so many questions about "what is a RICO drill?" and "how does it react?", I thought a video might help show a little better what it does. And while people usually think of how a RICO drilling will react on a solid ball designed for earlier roll, here's an example of it on an older pearl ball with a medium-low RG and medium differential, the Storm Eraser Banshee.
While a RICO drilling does encourage earlier
roll thanks to the very low pin position, it does not necessarily mean early
hook. Especially if your PAP is greater than 5 inches away from the grip center, the somewhat lower flare created by this layout for most people will get the ball to push down the lane some if there's oil to help it. However, again, the PAP location can make a difference in this layout since "pin at grip center" is not the same for every person. The low pin means the ball begins to roll early, but the transition is so slow that you get a very continuous motion off the spot, the ball keeps rolling and hooking. It will not give you the hook/set reaction you will sometimes see from a pin up drilling.
