Storm Pearl Crux, 2 handed session, need advice!
« on: May 16, 2015, 03:03:14 PM »
I'm new to two handed bowling (6 weeks) and fairly new to the sport (2 years, 4 leagues total).  2 handed has been a natural transition for me and has improved my speed, rev, and avg. Most importantly, it's made bowling extremely fun! Ive been watching Belmo vids and reading tips on forums for help.  Also recently purchased a storm pearl crux and it fits perfectly with this style, I LOVE it!  I've finally recorded a session for review.  Please check it out, any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA...

As a long time two hander; you must learn to slide.  Planting your slide foot will create some knee issues at some point; especially if you have quick feet.  Once you learn to stick the landing and not fall off the shot; then your accuracy will improve because right now you are all over the place.  Slow your feet down a tad and stick that slide.

As a Father of two sons who two hand.  I don't think you are that bad for a newcomer to the power house version of our sport.

I think for someone who is fairly new to the two handed version you have plenty of revs and good speed.

I am a big believer in a skip step and very little slide for this version of our sport.
These two elements seem to create the most speed revs and accuracy for the two hander.

I would recommend adjustable shoes and using either the number 2 or number 4 slide sole!

I admire TwoHand above but his non skip step version of the sport is very good but is the second most powerful version of our sport to the skp step version of two handed!

Can't slide without bowling shoes on!

Thanks for the advice.  I have never been able to slide for whatever reason and I have tried working on it to no success.  I've been able to learn how to balance myself with no slide while using one hand technique, but the added skip step on a five step 2 handed approach, including the general swing motion, makes it difficult to maintain balance.  I've also thought that a slide would help me with this issue but I just can't seem to get it right.  Worse off it ruins my entire swing when I focus too much in the slide itself and usually results in an even worse off balanced follow through. I'm hoping with a more practice I'll be able to incorporate it, or I'll just find a way to perfect a nonslide balanced follow through.

The knee issue is definitely going to be more of a problem down the road. I've tweaked it before and it's sore often after a long practice session. Here's hoping I learn how to slide!

Thank you for the encouraging words!  I too believe that the skip step is a huge component of the two hand technique.  When I initially began this style I incorporated a normal one handed 5 step approach, sans skip step, simply because I was familiar with it.  I started watching Belmo and Osku videos, read up on forums, and worked hard at getting the skip step down.  I obviously still have a lot of learning but I noticed immediately the added velocity and revs generated from that skip step.  However twohands has a great point in regards to knee issues.  Because of the sudden stopping motion and impact of a non slide follow, especially after that quick skip step, I've had some noticeable pain on my plant knee after several games.  Then again, as many fellow league bowlers like to say: "That's just the nature of the beast"

I'll definitely take a look at the slide soles you mentioned, that may help.

Also, Good luck to your boys!  I'm certain with your support and encouragement they'll do great.

Thanks,

My older one is quite good!  I'll try to stop there...Wish he cared about it enough to practice.

PS on the number 2 sole.  It is enough slide I think to save the knees, yet enough stop to rev it up....a notch!  As Emeril says!

that would be 286, not 290.   ;)

Balance is the key to the 2 handed style.  If this is something new to you, good luck and keep working.  The power will be fun!
