As a Father of two sons who two hand. I don't think you are that bad for a newcomer to the power house version of our sport.
I think for someone who is fairly new to the two handed version you have plenty of revs and good speed.
I am a big believer in a skip step and very little slide for this version of our sport.
These two elements seem to create the most speed revs and accuracy for the two hander.
I would recommend adjustable shoes and using either the number 2 or number 4 slide sole!
I admire TwoHand above but his non skip step version of the sport is very good but is the second most powerful version of our sport to the skp step version of two handed!

Thank you for the encouraging words! I too believe that the skip step is a huge component of the two hand technique. When I initially began this style I incorporated a normal one handed 5 step approach, sans skip step, simply because I was familiar with it. I started watching Belmo and Osku videos, read up on forums, and worked hard at getting the skip step down. I obviously still have a lot of learning but I noticed immediately the added velocity and revs generated from that skip step. However twohands has a great point in regards to knee issues. Because of the sudden stopping motion and impact of a non slide follow, especially after that quick skip step, I've had some noticeable pain on my plant knee after several games. Then again, as many fellow league bowlers like to say: "That's just the nature of the beast"
I'll definitely take a look at the slide soles you mentioned, that may help.
Also, Good luck to your boys! I'm certain with your support and encouragement they'll do great.
