Twister

Over thirty years of superior German engineering has resulted in the development of the Twister® — the first mass-produced synthetic bowling pin to obtain ABC/WIBC and USBC approval for use in sanctioned competition. First hitting the market in the summer of 1999, the Twister®Twister®. has enjoyed much success as a viable replacement for wood pins as proprietors around the world are making the switch to the synthetic

...seems to have omitted one important thing...the sound of the pins when being struck by a bowling ball. If the sound on the video clip is accurate, it sounds like a child's bowling game pins. Give me the old wooden sound anyday.

One of the houses I bowl at had the older version a few years back and had to remove them. For some reason, the scanner couldn't read them correctly and the automatic scorer was always off by a few pins.

Carry wise, I didn't notice a dramatic difference. They actually did bounce around pretty good.

The sound was a bit muddled though.

We have twisters here in one house (I am German )

I see a difference... the brunswick pins that are used at the brunswick center (of course ) are more stable and don't bounce that much.

About carry:
Imho it depends on the bowler...
Power players like high speed players and open bowlers get more scores as there ae pins flying everywhere and also the pins trip over more easy than the Brunswick pins.
For me it seems though I have a lot of messenger often I am in such bad luck that I get no scores as the all fly everywhere but not at the last pin standing ...

As I have no choice what pins to bowl with I don't bother.
And they don't use them anymore... they switched back to the "normal" AMF here

I bowl at Cherry Grove Lanes. Pretty interesting carry there. I won't say it is bad or good, just interesting. Seems like light hits carry so much better there than any where else. And it is pretty interesting watching the pins FLY there.

ok. a pin will never recieve 400 tons of force, or be steamrolled, so what is the point of those tests? prove its strength in an alley, not in a ridiculous test. also, what happened to the good old crack of wood when you go high flush? those sound like tinker toys.

Twister pins are taking one of the best sounds that all bowlers love to hear - The sound of 10 wooden pins being knocked down.

Its like replacing a willow cricket bat with a plastic one - The sound of a leather ball hitting it will never be right. Its also the same with replacing a wooden baseball bat with aluminium.

Prove durability in the long run for bowling centers in not having to replace its pins so often.

If people bowled on them enough and caught on, you could carry with the Twisters pretty well.  Personally, I like watching pins fly on light hits.  It makes it more fun to watch.  Granted, the sound of a high flush shot is cool.  But, either way.  Whichever pins you use, you will still see an abundance of back row pins left standing on good shots.
