As a review sneak preview, I edited up some video footage of my tests with my new Smash Zone on a longer THS. The video was taken last week at "Treff Bowling" in Duisburg, Germany, the site of the European Champions Cup (ECC)2008 which will take place next week (therefore all the flags) - unfortunately, the oil pattern was not the ECC's yet. But that's how the lanes look like...

Besides some general reaction impressions, I tried to pit the SZ against my Awesome Finish (as the closest relative in my arsenal) and my Frankie May Gryphon (which has virtually the same drilling) - hope it is helpful?

As a side note: this is not intended to show perfect shots (I am FAR from that), just give some impression about the ball and what it does in the hands of a mediocre bowler .
A detailed review will follow soon, nevertheless.

As an addition, because I found the OOB Smash Zone a bit hard to control at the breakpoint, I decided to change its surface to a Rough Buff finish on a 320 grit wet sanded base (all 4 sided, on home-made spinner).

I was also able to catch the ball's new reaction yesterday at the ECC 2008 site, where Kegel officials were programming the oil machine for the tournament's short and long oil patterns (which will be in effect as of today for training).

I was able to get a lane with a preliminary short oil pattern and try the Smash Zone with its new surface. Unfortunately no oil graph was available, but the pattern was really short (33-35' long, gutter to gutter) and rather thin/light. After 4 consecutive games the ball would turn the corner ever sooner, delivering many Brooklyn hits because it would move so much... My Slate Blue Gargoyle was much more effective.

Anyway, here are some additional shots from the ECC site, and the Smash Zone with its new surface which makes it hook a LOT on this short pattern!

Review is in progress, but due to the surface change/experiment it will take some more days... Will be a long one!

Song name and band are included in the final sequence of the video.

First video music/soundtrack is Depeche Mode - "Slowblow".

It is not an album track, but a b-side of the 1997 single "It's no good" (in the Europe release these were 2 single CDs, this original version included on the grey one LCD BONG 26.
