Video of me (Please check out and comment)
« on: February 16, 2011, 03:30:52 PM »
The first few shots are what I was doing a month ago, the last few are the adjustments I have made on my own.  Please feel free to commend, criticize, or just comment in general, thanks!!

Stop trying to rip the cover off the ball. All you are worrying about is how much hook you can create. It shows after you release the ball and you hop to the right. How many pros do you see hop even a small amount? Non that I can remember.I like your faster steps.
This is what you should look like at the release.

Very muscled arm swing followed by you hitting up on the ball which is causing you to hop off to the right on every shot. I would also assume you probably have an excessive amount of grip pressure causing you to be inaccurate at times.

Thanks for the comments guys, I don't try to rip the cover off the ball nor is that my attitude though.  I was a baseball pitcher for a long time and threw pretty hard so its kind of translated into my bowling game with the forcing my back swing.  My hitting of the ball and back swing are a lot less than three years ago where my back swing was forced even higher than in the videos of me now.  My biggest problem is the back swing with trying to not force it, I also struggle a lot with a straight swing because I have shoulder problems stemming from subluxation  in both my shoulders.  My shoulder literally slides out of place on the way back and back into place on the way down.

I would say you need to really slow down your game. Especially with a shoulder problem. I had to do that after an elbow injury. I am against fast feet. The idea that it translates to ball speed is just wrong. It translates to bad timing because then you have to catch the ball up to the feet when it should be your arm swing dictating your foot speed. That hop is also concerning. What I noticed there was that when you didn't hop or it was smaller you shot was better. You seemed to pull balls when you hop. Like I said before, an injury like that to your shoulder should make you slow down. I had to go from 18mph and 425-450 rpms to 15-16 mph with 350 after my elbow injury. And my game has actually gotten better. Muscles can sometimes change or just have an off day. Physics doesn't, try to work on getting your body out of the way of physics and just let the swing happen.

You have the revs & speed many wish to posess, if anything...

smooth everything out including your approach and slide (figure out a way to plant and not hop)

Can you bowl the way you are in this video on sport oil? like heavy heavy tournament shots with that speed?...i would make sure you can slow everything down incase you ever run into heavier oiled non THS.  VERSITILITY is key to winning at this sport.  everyone has their "A" game, make sure your "B", "C", "D" game can look that good, and youd be unstoppable!

I wish i had half the hand and speed you do! haha...im a smooth, slow but rev dominate bowler, i try even out all aspects of my game by bowling in many houses, bowling on different shots, and always looking for the next aspect of my game i can improve one.

Try to get your ellbow more to you body at the bottom of the swing. Try to play some balls backup to get the proper feeling. This will help you to stay longer under the ball and you will get a much better ballmotion and more hitting power.
Just my opinion

Adding to the list of things you might work on:

Knee bend - might help the hopping

Hinge swing - noticed you kind of go up with the ball a little.  This could help you develop at flat spot at your release.

This is a good video because Jimmy Martin is changing how he releases the ball to play different parts of the lanes.  The break point appears to be similar in most of the shots.  It appears in the first couple he's not tilting the ball and going right up the back to play it straighter.  Possibly to show off the ball or it could be the lane was tight.  He changed his tilt and opened up the lane later on, possibly after the shot settled down or opened up, and was playing much wider angles.  It's hard to see but he is hinging his armswing and he does have a knee bend.

Here is a video his release in slow motion

I hope these are useful to you.
