Pick me apart guys!
« on: February 14, 2009, 09:45:21 AM »
I know I don't look good throwing the ball.  But have been trying to work on some things, like my arm swing.  I am throwing a Fury Pearl on very toasted lanes.  Enjoy!

Work on your balance at the line.  Some shots you stayed on the shot, but most you fell off.

Other than that, someone else will have to help because I didn't see much wrong with it.

Kudos for being able to walk around the ball return.  Yes I just said kudos. haha

Correct me if Im wrong, but sometimes turning the ball out at the top of your armswing can create an inconsistancy when trying to hit your mark down lane...somebody correct me if im wrong here...

Your push away looks very slow and controlled.  This causes your feet to get very slow (almost stop) before your 3rd step.

Once you push the ball away, let it fall at the speed of gravity.  Don't try to control the ball on the way down!  Your footwork will have more even tempo and the steps will be more natural.

What they said. What you lack is leverage. I can't overstate how important leverage is to a good repeatable shot.

It starts with your arm swing. Let gravity do the work. Don't start to throw the ball from the peak of the back swing. Wait on it as it descends, and then follow through.

This will let you throw the ball with your shoulder. In fact, don't be surprised if you have some soreness in the shoulder area if you do this because you hadn't been using that muscle group before.

With that said, couple it with bringing your slide foot towards the center of your torso to have more balance at the line. You'll have good leverage at the release and wont fall off your shots like that.

I didn't watch the whole video, but the one thing I noticed that was consistent with 90% of the shots is that you're falling off at the release.

I used to have the same problem, here's what I did:

   - Moved up about 1-2 feet on the approach.
   - Took slightly smaller steps, slow them down if you have to.
   - Focused on having a completely "loose" armswing.

Step one was done to achieve step two, slower and shorter steps gives you less of a chance to lose balance.  Step three was done more or less to try and promote a consistent shot.  It took me a session or two of practice to get down, and my scores haven't been dramatically effected.  But I am finding myself throwing the ball a lot better on the sport shots.

Looks solid!  To sevenpin's point you fall of the shot a bit, it almost looked like on some of your shots your last step and the release are really rushed.

But then that could be because you had to step in front of the ball return just to be able to play inside enough to carry =)

Your timing is way late, which is probably causing you to be so off balance at point of release. Your taking 5 steps but not moving the ball until your third step. Way to late for you. Try getting your ball into your swing a little sooner. On a good note, I like how you were playing deep and have the ability to step around the ball return. Also, it did not appear as you were flalling the ball right. You do seem to have some control. Once you get your timing a little better, I would try loosening up your swing. It looks like you have quite a bit of muscling going on. You want to have as free a swing as you can have for when you get into those high pressure shots.
