Would Like to See Lower Rev/Speed Videos
« on: May 22, 2012, 09:18:25 AM »
I wish there are more videos with lower speed and rev rate people demostrating bowling ball reaction.  Not everyone throws 17 mph and 300+ revs.  There are people that throw 15-mph and 225- revs.  With speed and high revs everything looks good. With lower speed and revs you get a better idea of what a ball can do.  For example:

I don't see how low revs/speed makes it any easier to see what a ball can really do than high rev/speed.  They are all still on house shots.

Regardless, Curlie has been throwing it slow with low revs for years on the bowlingball.com videos.  Hammer has a woman in their videos, and I believe Brunswick does as well.  Watching low speed/revs guys throw everything up 10 isn't very impressive though.  Its not worth doing if it doesn't help ball sales.

Thanks for the reference.    Checked out that video--show the ball has the tendency to set up in the back.

Sorry Hank, but I will have to disagree with you and agree with Wilbert here. For us lower speed-lower rev bowlers, when showing videos of high revs - high speed bowlers tells us nothing about what the ball being shown will do for us lower rev - lower speed bowlers.

I know exactly what you guys mean, and I speak for the middle ground guys/gals too. It's good to see a little variation, but to truly review a ball, I'd like to see shots that don't strike...ones where shots are missed left or right of target to see how they keep up. And maybe a few games later after the lanes have changed quite a bit. THAT would be a true ball review; not an endless slideshow of strikes.

I'm not low rev/speed, but I'm not a grip and rip it guy either.  I have a video of me throwing on Viper in my profile.  I'm taking a lot of hand out of the ball trying to feed it up the gutter.

metallicaaaaaaa, I agree with you all the way here. I have made numerous posts here in the past saying the same thing you said here.

Geoff, great video. That is what people like to see is all of the shots like you showed and not just "strikes only" shots.

And I'm going to disagree

I know I'm in the minority on this thread, but I'm gonna have to disagree with this too.  Whether the ball holds or shoots back on the house shot has nothing to do with how good of a ball it is, it has to do with how easy the lanes are and how well the ball matches up with the bowler on that specific oil pattern.  It is VERY unlikely that your lane conditions and release are exactly the same as the guy in the video.

Videos are for showing the shape of a ball.  A REALLY good video will have the ball at different surfaces and compared to other balls.  Whether the ball strikes or not in the video is irrelevant, IMO.

You are looking at this from the wrong perspective when it comes to sales.  Guys watching videos of bowling balls that go big 4 and then 2-8-10 are more than likely going to steer the average bowler away from purchasing that ball.  People want to strike and strike as much as they can.  So, visually, if they see a ball striking alot on a video, it makes that impression and people are going to want it.  I agree that we need to find people of various styles in the videos, which is why I like the Hammer videos.  You get a woman stroker, a tweener, couple crankers, and a lefty; not to mention they compare against another ball in a similar price point.

I agree with you with respect to sales, but most of the comments here are from people buying the balls.  They want to see the ball in action thrown good, thrown bad, and by as many styles as possible in order to help them make a selection.  Sure the manufacturer wants to make his product look as good as possible.  But when a consumer throws a ball with less than 450 rpm and not on the biggest wall on the planet and struggles with the reaction, he's going to be disappointed.  I like the independent guys like Britton.  He can compare a few different balls on several different patterns and he leaves some shots in where the strong ball looks good and the weaker one struggles to turn the corner, or where the weak ball looks good on a shorter condition whike the strong ball checks early and goes through the face.

The videos by 900Global showing the new Global/AMF balls are great.  3/4 different style bowlers each ball (Freight Train, Look, Cobra, Bullwhip).  Check You Tube.

This is one of my favorite ball demo videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nx_RF2JtEbc

I'd rather watch someone with a similar rev rate to mine demo a ball than watch a 450rpm guy tear the cover off the ball...there's just no comparison to my game.

However, with that said, I think this is a great way to differentiate reactions within a line-up of balls:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6VNupnClIk

I wish companies would copy this to show the differences within their line-up.

LookingForALeftyWall,

I love that Columbia arsenal video, the bottom link from your post above, also!

Another one I love is this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7x1_uPxGeVM

As a player in between those big hands boys and the straight up 10 crowd I love wathching arsenal comparisons like the link referenced above or drilling differences like the ones I just posted.  Having lefties is a plus and lefties with different rev rates even better!  And in comparison to a benchmark righty Chris Forry of Buddies.

Having these drilling, rev rate differences and left or right handed differences, what could be better!  Love it!  My favorite video!

As noted above Brunswick does a nice job doing all discussed above except left right differences.  I would love to see Parker or Johhny Petraglia in these Brunswick videos(or Dave Davis if still throwing the Brunswick pills).

Regards,

Luckylefty
Ebonite also does a real nice job and throws in Jason Couch quite a bit for the left right comparison.
