The Brunswick Edge series of bowling balls features a low RG symmetric weight block. The Edge Dark Purple Solid combines this core with their Relative Control coverstock. This pairing creates mid-lane control as well as a smooth and continuous backend motion when used on medium oiled lanes.

Ron Bragg and the folks at Brunswick were nice enough to send one of these my way. As I am still trying to assemble my Open Championships arsenal, I was anxious to put holes in it.

I am currently a no-thumb bowler, so I placed the cg in my ring finger hole, put the pin about 2" from my PAP, and drilled the fingers to 3.5" deep (per Mo's suggested layouts for two-handers/no thumbers).

I tried at few shots at the 500/2000 box finish, but I wanted the ball to pick up a bit sooner and be smoother off the spot. As such, I knocked the surface down to 1000 with the scratch marks going 12-6 as opposed to 3-9. With that surface, the ball picks up a bit sooner and is tamer on the back.

My hope is that this can be something I can go to on the fresh when I need something smooth and even. I need to do more testing between now and my trip to Vegas, but I definitely see potential in this ball.

Now, for those looking to just let it rip, the box finish and a stronger drilling can definitely make this ball longer and stronger, which I know is what many bowlers want to see.

The Melee Jab and Hook were 2 of my favorite balls last season, but I did not have a chance to drill 15lbers since I dropped weight this season.  I was very excited to hear of the Edges to give me that beloved shape in my bag. 

I drilled my Solid Edge 55x5x45 (pin barely above the bridge) very similarly to my scuffed Jab with the intention of giving me a ball that would fit right in the middle of my bag and it did not disappoint.  It gives me a very similar read to my Jab, but just a little earlier and less sensitive to oil.  The Edge Solid is a little cleaner and stronger downlane than the Melee Hook, realistically bridging the gap between it and the Jab. 
The Edge Solid gives me medium length with a rounded shape resulting in above average backend.  I immediately found this reaction to be very comfortable for me where I could swing the ball a little bit, but chase the oil left of 4th arrow without having to work the ball much to make the corner.
Compared to other balls in my bag, it is a great step down from my Fanatic SS to offer me some more length and shape down the lane to open up my angles.  I am yet to drill a pin up pearl Edge, but the solid is both stronger AND more angular than my pin up Diva Style.  The Edge offers similar length to my solid Freakshow but with a few more boards of backend.  In terms of alignment with my feet/eyes it is closest to my Vandal Destroy, which revs up in the midlane just a little more.
I recommend the Edge Solid for anybody looking for a versatile ball that will give you a look on a wide variety of lane patterns.

The edge solid what can I say other then what a great rolling ball, another amazing ball by Brunswick. I have both my edges laid out the same 70x5x30. The solid picks up a good 3ft sooner for me in the mids and is a little more angular then the pearl. IMHO the edges are the smoothest through the fronts and midlane and the most continuous through the pins in the Brunswick line. It's a completely different backend reaction for me. So if your looking for a great rolling solid with a smooth motion and continuous backend, then look no further.

One of my favorite balls right now! This ball is strong with a very continuous motion motion that produces a great carry percentage. I wont find myself using it on drier conditions but Medium to High this ball will always be in play. I also am very impressed with the continuation this ball has as I move deeper and open the lane up. The deeper I got the ball always seemed to Continue through the pins and make the corner. Same as the Pearl I love that the ball is one color. I find it much easier to read the lanes and I can stay on top of my adjustments faster this way!

Edge Series is a great bang for your dollar!

COMMENTS
The Edge Solid is one of the most versatile solid balls I've thrown. This ball is pretty clean through the fronts and reads the midlane fairly quick and has a very continuous arcing motion in the backend.  I laid mine out to slow the midlane read down a little and save it energy for the backend motion.  The Edge Solid and Edge Pearl are the best 1-2 punch combo I've thrown in a while.

The Edge solid is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.  When the lanes are medium oil, this ball is money.  For me it is pretty smooth for me.  I have the same layout on a melee hook which for me the edge is a bit cleaner but to me, its not as angular downlane as my hook was.  I also am now more up the back of the ball than I was.  This ball will be good on many different conditions from house, to patterns.

The Edge Solid is one of the most forgiving solid balls I've thrown. Being a high rev player, I have mostly stayed away from solid surfaces, but this ball fits perfectly in between my aggressive pearl ball and my equipment drilled to go longer on shorter patterns. On the pattern that was used, THS, the Edge Solid pushed through the oil in the middle, but did not overreact when hitting the dry on the outside. It gave forgiveness on shots pulled inside by holding its line through the oil, yet still having enough in the back end to recover. Both inside pulled shots and shots pushed through the oil to bump the dry, the ball stayed low on the deck with exceptional carry of all 10 pins. Overall, this ball could be used in many conditions, medium to heavy oil, and will give the arcing back end that is well controlled with continuous drive. I recommend this ball to any level bowler looking for a go to ball.
