COMMENTS

Likes: Easy length and recovery

Dislikes: none

The Cutting Edge Solid is the longer and more angular of the Cutting Edge Series.  It is essentially a longer and more angular LT48.  This one goes about 3 more feet down the lane than the Cutting Edge Hybrid and really takes over after the breakdown starts.  With this one you can throw it straight up the track area or play it inside out.  It is very versatile for a ball that shows this much length.  Slower speeds like myself are going to find the Cutting Edge Solid to be a great tournament ball because it does clear the fronts very well.  This one is going to come out of the bag after the Cutting Edge Hybrid and the Method are just too much.  The Cutting Edge Solid is on the Cutting Edge of length and performance.

Re: Cutting Edge Solid - My New Benchmark Ball

Everyone needs that one ball in their bag that they can take with them every time they bowl. This is the ball. I was a huge fan of the original Edge and Edge Pearl so it was understandable that I was curious to see how these balls reacted. I love these balls 10X more than the original Edges. The Cutting Edge Solid has become my new benchmark ball. It’s designed for medium lane conditions. It’s predictable roll and smooth motion will help you manage the pocket and keep you out of trouble.

COMMENTS

The Cutting edge Solid is a ball motion that brought back memories.  The ball has the LT48 skid through the fronts and has a very similar shape to the Versamax on the backend.  With these two elements into one ball.  The ball is a definite must have in your arsenal.

This ball is a great complement to the Cutting Edge Hybrid.  It scoots easily through the midlane and saves it's punch for where it really matters, at the pin deck.  Mine is drilled pin above the bridge of the fingers and whenever I find transition causes the downlane shape of the hybrid to change, I can immediately switch to this ball and continue scoring.

It doesn't hook a great deal for me, but again it's motion is at the right time to drive through the pins properly to maximize carry.  A well designed piece.

It's a great ball at a great price point.  I highly recommend picking up both if you're either looking to start an arsenal, or replace some older balls in your current options.

Drilled and redrilled my Cutting Edge Solid as this ball was much more angular than I had expected.
My intent for this ball was to give me some length with some shape on the back end that I have been missing since my LT48 was retired so I went 60x5x35 (pin up) and I just couldn't believe how skid/flippy this ball could be!  The Cutting Edge Solid got way down the lane and would take a sharp left turn at the breakpoint, cutting right past the 9 pin.  The Solid at box finish was almost identical to my Pearl with equal length and if anything an even sharper back end.  I quickly hit the Solid with 2k and the separation between the 2 balls had improved, but after a few blah outings as a result of too much angle, I had realized that it was still too quick off the dry boards for my liking so I plugged and redrilled it 45x4.25x50 (pin in ring finger).

The redrill made a world of difference.  The Cutting Edge Solid now began to read the middle of the lane a little more and had a more arcing backend motion as opposed to what was just a release of angular energy.  With this layout I was able to see a motion midway between the Hybrid (pin over ring, scuff) and my Pearl (pin over bridge, shiny).  The stronger layout allowed me to keep my hand up the back of the ball for some more midlane read when playing the track, but I could still really work it on the backend from inside out.  The redrill has taken the Cutting Edge from a niche ball in my bag to becoming a regular in my traveling tournament bag.  I am happy with the shapes I see and really like the versatility that this ball offers on drier lanes.

Compared to other balls in my bag, the Cutting Edge Solid is a few boards stronger on the backend than my Magnitude 035 Pearl and a step cleaner than my solid Intel.  The overall shape reminds me a lot of the DV8 Dude or LT48 remake from a few seasons ago, but with a step more motion off the back end.  Don't be afraid to knock the shine off and use a stronger layout to smooth out the ball's shape.

I recommend the Cutting Edge Solid for bowlers looking help getting the ball down the lane while still seeing some motion down the lane when the lanes are dry.  This ball will be most effective on older lane surfaces and wood lanes, but for bowlers with softer speed (seniors especially) the Cutting Edge Solid will be a winner!
