The 2nd addition to the Fortera and Flip line, the Intrigue builds on what the Exile did and makes it even better. I find this to be my benchmark ball as of late. I drilled this ball with the Pin and CG in a negative position and the mass bias on the right edge of my thumb. This layout allows me to really get farther right than any of my other equipment and I can really pack the pocket with it. The Intrigue has a strong backend motion with very little deflection through the pins.

Bowled on THS 42' and 43', 24-25ml of oil.

COMMENTS

The introduction of the Fortera line added a completely new motion to the Brunswick line, literally. Most people don’t realize many balls are developed from the same base coverstock formula as some manufacturers don’t typically have more than a few base formulas developed. The Fortify coverstocks come from an entirely new formula. These Fortera line balls have great length and strong backend, and the Exile was the first to show off it’s true skid-flip capabilities. The Intrigue is everything Exile is, but just more of it. Because of the stronger coverstock and the Royal Compound surface finish, the Intrigue is able to handle more volume and still create that strong backend we see with the Exile. Both these balls fall into the flip category, so you don’t have to worry about them hooking off your hand. I will say that the added strength of the Intrigue really creates more versatility for bowlers. This is a first-out- of-the-bag ball for me, and probably is or will be for many other bowlers.

On a medium volume, 41 ft pattern, I can usually be around 4-5 boards left of where I normally stand with the Exile. I am able to see the Intrigue pick up just a hair earlier, likely due to its coverstock and surface prep, and creates a pretty sharp, yet predictable backend motion. I typically have trouble  with higher end asymmetric balls using too much energy too early, yet this ball really excites me as I am able to create some pretty steep angles with it.

Overall, The intrigue has earned it's spot in my bag as my benchmark ball for medium-med/heavy, and because of that, I'm positive it would make a great addition to anyone's arsenal.

The Fortera Intrigue is a backend flip monster. This ball is by far the longest and strongest Brunswick ball I have ever thrown to date. The difference between this and the original Exile is how they handle oil. The Exile was a fantastic ball when the front part of the lane was burned up. The Exile did not like to see any oil down lane which sometimes could make the ball a little tricky at times. This Intrigue turns the corner like no other ball I’ve ever thrown from Brunswick. When you need to open up your angles and have maximum recovery this is the ball for you. This ball is more angular and more continuous than anything I have ever thrown before. When I first drilled it I couldn’t believe how many times it ran over the 8 pin in a row. If you like a ball that goes really long and seriously flips hard this is the ball for you.

I drilled the intrigue, 70 x 6 x 50. I needed a few balls for when the lanes break down and the heads burn up. This ball is smooth with a continuous backend reaction. This ball compliments my Melee Jab perfectly. The way I have these balls drilled the Intrigue starts up a little sooner and not quite as sharp off the spot as the Jab. This is a very versatile ball. Your local Proshop owner can drill this ball to fit most gaps in your arsenal.

COMMENTS

Likes:This ball is designed to corner. I found the Intrigue to be stronger than the Exile in the mid lane and not hindered by down lane oil. The Intrigue works well for me when the front of the lane has some volume. This ball allows me to move deep and still create a strong pocket entry as it turn the corner great and continues through the pocket.

Dislikes: none at this time

Bowling Style:
   Rev rate: 300 rpm
   Speed: 16-17 mph
   PAP: 5” right, ½” up

Layout:
   50 x 4.5” x 45
   x-hole: N/A

Surface:
   OOB

Comments:
This ball gives me a different kind of look from the Brunswick name. The Intrigue uses the same Fortify Hybrid coverstock that was seen on the Brute and they put the fortera flip weight block into it. Even though the Intrigue has a hybrid cover it is finished with Royal Shine leaving it a very glossy surface.
When comparing this to the Fortera Exile I see very similar amounts of hook potential but at totally different places in the lane. The Intrigue is at least 3-5 ft longer down the lane than the Exile was; this provides a great length with a strong down lane motion. I personally enjoyed the way the Fortera Flip weight block kept the pins low increasing carry in the previous releases, and it still holds true for me with The Intrigue. Just another great look from the Big B!!

This is my very first post reviewing a ball, but I am glad that it is this one. I love this ball! This is usually my No. 1 or No. 2 right out of the back. I tend to use this ball more for the fresh oil, or depending the transition, I am able to use this when the lanes transition quickly. This ball is clean through the fronts, maintains that back end reaction, and drives through the pin deck. I love this ball! It is a great complement to the Fortera Exile!

For those who like the Fortera Exile, Brunswick offers the new Intrigue with a hybrid coverstock. I have similar layouts on both those balls and what I have observed is the Intrigue is a few boards stronger and a little earlier with more continuation through the pins. I find I can use this on our fresh Sport pattern during league if I square up with it a little. I can also go to it game two and open up the lane and the Intrigue will hold pocket well. I have this ball in my arsenal below my Mastermind, and Radical Guru and above my Melee Jab and Fortera Exile. The Intrigue is a good bridge between the very strong Asymmetrical balls and the Symmetrical balls in the middle of my arsenal. The Intrigue is usually in my tournament bag as part of my everyday arsenal. Like many of the Brunswick pieces, what I love about them is they are very controllable and forgiving. It's a very solid workhorse Hybrid suitable for league and tournament play.

Likes:Definitely a strong piece, and with the drilling where I had the Pin next to my ring finger, it allowed to pick up in a strong roll, even on the Fresh condition.

Intrigue 60 x 4.5 x 40
Added a little more surface with a used 1000 pad

I used this ball exclusively at the Miller Masters tournament in Helena Montana. I don't know the specifics of the pattern but it was medium length, and the best shot for me was to open up the angles and swing the ball out. The layout provided good recovery and wasn't too snappy on the dry.
The next day the shot changed and the best shot was outside five, unfortunately I figured this out too late. I still used this Intrigue for playing up the boards! I changed my release from a heavy side roll to an up the back release and the Intrigue had excellent length and didn't over hook on the back. The ball is very versatile on a medium pattern with different releases, but probably not the first choice on a heavily oiled lane.
