The Power Groove line has been a tremendous success for Brunswick. Designed primarily for bowlers buying their first performance ball, the Power Groove line delivers a tremendous amount of hook potential for the money.

The Power Groove Dry/R Green/Chrome is designed for a different type of bowler and lane condition.

Less traction in the oil, a smoother reaction off the dry and a lower hook potential than the shiny Power Groove reactive balls, the Power Groove DryR delivers a better match-up on dry lane conditions.

High RPM players will find the Power Groove Dry/R to be the tamest of Brunswick’s reactive coverstock balls, making it an excellent ball to go to on dry lane conditions.

Low speed players who struggle to get the ball down the lane will find the Power Groove Dry/R creates more length, saving its hooking action for the back-end where it belongs.

Coverstock: The Green/Chrome Pearl features PowerBoost Dry, a tamer version of the PowerBoost reactive coverstock found on balls in the BVP line .

Core: The Power Groove DryR Green/Chrome uses Brunswick’s DISC (Differential Increasing Side Cylinders) core technology which provides:

The largest track flare potential of any ball in its class.

Consistent track flare potentials at all weights from 12-16 pounds.

Larger, more consistent pin-out distances at all weights from 12-16 pounds.

A more driller friendly design. The precise geometric placement of high density side cylinders maximizes the increase in Track Flare Potential while maintaining symmetry for easy drilling.

Reaction Setup
Your Power Groove Dry/R Green/Chrome Pearl can be drilled using the standard drilling techniques developed for two-piece balls. Since the Power Groove Dry/R is intended for drier lane conditions Brunswick recommends using pin positions between 4 ½” to 5 ¾”, avoiding the most aggressive 3 3/8” (leverage) pin position. See the included drilling instructions for reaction characteristics and layout details.

Your Power Groove Dry/R Green/Chrome Pearl is finished with a high gloss surface which enhances its appearance and reduces hooking action in the oil. High gloss finishes can sometimes cause over/under reactions, too little hooking action in the oil, then too much hooking action off the dry, which can be hard to control. To increase hooking action and smooth out the ball reaction dull the surface, first with a fine 800-1000 grit abrasive. If more hooking action and a smoother reaction is desired dull the surface of the ball with a coarse 320-400 grit abrasive.

when the lanes dry up this ball is alright. too much over under but when it gets to the pocket dont worry about anything standing up. its getting to the pocket thats the problem. i got it drilled under the ring about 1 inch under. my suggestion pass on this ball

See my profile for stats:

I drilled this up for a combo spare/dry lanes ball. I laid it out with a leverage type drill 3 3/8 x 3 3/8 with a hole down from the axis. I left it box finish.

On a THS, this is a good spare ball as it goes pretty direct at everything unless my speed is really down and I hit late dry. I have tried this on a really bad surface with guardian imagemaker heads. I still had to get pretty far right and keep my angles closed down almost like I was pointing the ball on really wet lanes. I could probably get more if I hit the surface with 800 grit, but then it would take away the spare shooting element that I was looking for.

For the price, it is a decent combo ball if you are trying to maximize what is in your bag.

I've had this ball for a while now.  The ball came with a 2.5 inch pin I laid it out 6.25 x 5 (Pin over middle finger CG under ring on mid line)  Initially I was disappointed with the ball because the factory finish made it too skid flip.  I knocked off the finish with a green pad, hit the ball with 1000 and then 2000 girt abralon and proceeded to apply 4 coats of track delayed reaction polish.  Since then I feel that this ball has matched up phenomenally on extremely dry lane conditions. I use this ball a lot in a late shift league where there is very little oil.  The ball reads the lanes well, does not over react, and gives sufficient albeit not overly aggresive continuation through the pins.

This ball works very well on lanes that are completely burnt both in the heads and the backend, it gives an even reaction without too much flip but also does not burn up.  This ball will not handle carry down very well due to the low-flare drilling and surface prep, but that is not its intended use.  Given the appropriate conditions and some surface adjustments, this ball will produce tremendous results.  This ball is an excellent value; a definite must have with its $60-80 price tag.

I got this ball last Week on Wednesday. Its got about 5 games on it. Its drilled stacked leverage with pin under ring figner and cg directly below that. (my stats are in the profile) I originally wanted the ball for dry lanes. On a fresh shot this drill pattern makes for a great down and in ball. Stand on 20, shoot down the 5 board and the ball will break to the pocket hard. Once carry down sets in, put it away as the ball will skid too long and then become too skid/flippy. I will not post a series with the ball because it does not reflect the true potential of the ball as im not in the best of game shooting right now. I do know that when I throw the ball right, i can predict where its going with the rest of my Brunswick equipment. The only complaint, it skids a little too long for my liking OOB finish. Im gonna hit it was a maroon pad ever so lightly till I get the desired look on the lanes. From 0-10: 8.75 (its yet to proove itself) There will be another review once i start using it more, this is just an initial review.

I wasn't throwing this on an ideal condition (one where I just threw a 278 with my Smokin' Inferno sanded to 220 with rough buff applied the previous game), so I will update this review later, but here goes with my limited experience with the ball:

Mine is drilled pin next to ring, CG in palm, surface taken to 2000 abralon with no polish. This ball, like a lot of high RG balls I've experienced, gets a better reaction the more hand you put into it. On the condition I was bowling, I had a hard time getting to the pocket. I think this is going to be a ball where you need a dry condition, especially in the back, but still have a little head oil. Very smooth (and minimal) backend, but a little sensitive in the midlane if my speed wasn't firm. Speeding it up made it a great 10-pin ball. This isn't a ball where you're going to be confused by what it does on the latter third of the lane, but instead the middle third, at least that was my experience. Oh, this was a choppy 2nd shift oil pattern on synthetic lanes, I will be throwing this in a wood house with guardian applied next week, this is what I got the ball for (and for tournaments when I can't even throw my Punisher). For those of you who generally have your "driest non=plastic arsenal ball" be a urethane because of erratic reactive reactions, don't worry about this ball. It never once hooked a board more than I thought it would, usually the opposite. The reaction would be akin to a plastic ball with more backend, or a urethane with more length. If that sounds like a reaction you want, get one. If you're considering this ball at all give a shot, can't go wrong with the price.

Okay, its almost 2 months later from my 1st review on this ball. Ive used it very little still but last night and today I had to use it so its got about 20 games on it total now. The shot was a short oil THS. 35' buffed to 38' Ball played very well on this fresh shot. Last night I went 207, 189, 232 for 628. Today was the same shot in practice. (owner adjusted the oil machine for the new lanes and wanted me to see what the shot looked like after the adjustment) after some warming up I went 255, 277, 268 for 800 on the nose!! I was totally amazed with the ball. Unfortunately this wasnt during leauge. Very shot specific ball but when its on the right lanes its a monster!! Great Ball from Brunswick!! 9.5 out of 10.

Ball is drilled pin under the middle finger with an X hole.

Ball is great for the drier lanes.  Honestly, I have only had to use it a couple of times, and only on tournament conditions.  Found that this ball is best used to play straight up 10 and have it hook into the pocket.  Surprising carry and glad I gave this ball a try.  Although I don't use it all that often it has definitely been a welcome addition to my bag of tricks!!!

2nd review

Bowled the 2nd shift of a tournament with no oiling in between at my home house yesterday...usually, through the 2nd shift, I'm still ok with my Punisher (swinging the lane) or Speed Demon Zone (starting deep, going fairly direct). Not today, even my smooth SDZ was hooking too much once the carrydown burned away! I pulled out my Dry/R, though was a little skeptical based on past experiences that it would be dry enough for me to do anything but straight up 2nd arrow. I couldn't have been more wrong, and when I tried this I hit the 2-4 "pocket". I immediately moved back to my 20-8 line and was shocked at the strong move I was getting...this ball still got down the lane pretty well (though admittedly, early reaction wasn't too much of a problem all things considering) and was just flat sick in the backend. If you like the reaction of the Punisher, this ball is a GREAT compliment to it. The last time I found conditions this dry, I was throwing a shined up Blue Hammer, and I was having to throw much harder and hitting up on it to get a decent reaction. With this ball, I could throw my normal game, no problem. I have it at 2000 Abralon w/no polish right now, I'm wondering if I should take it to 4000 or add polish. I'm hesitant to do this as I see the conditions for this ball so infrequently that I really find it hard to judge whether or not I should alter it. I think I will just leave well enough alone and be happy that I have found a workable solution for scorched lanes!

Hi All ...

I got this ball to cover the (very) "dry" end of my arsenal...

pin between the fingers
5 1/2" from PAP
OOB finish
Used on tipical house conditions (medium-dry, dry)

I wanted it go looong and a smooth turn.. and that is what I've got.. very good pin carry and with the right hand position I can also leave my spare ball in my house...

And for the price I think is a good deal...

Folks GET THIS BALL!!!!

I was a little nervous getting a ball that has the word "dry" on it.  WOW.  I carry a 215 average and last month I threw a 298 with it.  The last frame wasn't the ball's fault it was the the bowlers.

I bowl late thursday nights after a 5 person per team league has bowled on the lanes and the ball is perfect.  Great for med/dry to dry lanes and you get outstanding carry as well.  I would pay more for the ball but about $70 gets you one heck of a ball

The ball is 75% of your stock. If you give it full hook, what does the ball do? what happens when you drill the ball at 50%?  At 25% what happens with the ball? I don't understand all the terms of drilling a bowling ball. Cal

The League that I bowl in is in the morning and the lanes are not oiled. The only oil on the lanes is from the night before. I'm a down and in bowler and I don't have the strength any more to throw the ball hard, so I needed a ball that would  go longer.I decided to try Power Groove Dry/R from all the reviews. The pro shop drilled the ball with pin about a 1/2 below bridge and centered between finger holes. The ball goes long and has a smooth turn to the packet. It also has very good pin carry and can use it for my spare ball.

Well I have been trying for the longest time to find a DRY pattern Ball.  I mean more WET/Dry or very little oil from 10 to 1.  Have tried a lot of balls with a lot of drillings all with little or no success.  Well I finally found it.  Brunswick Groove Dry/R.  My PAP is 5 5/16ths over 5/16ths down.  I put a 2 1/2 inch Pin to PAP with ht CG on my PAP.  Ball had 3.7oz Top Weight so I have 1 1/4 hole on my PAP 3" deep.  Leaves me 1/2 oz side.  This is the ULTIMATE SMOOTH ball.  We played a club tournament this weekend and my last 6 games..........all played outside....241 average.....played 7 to 5 with the break around 43-45 feet and just strong silky smooth roll right up to the pocket and 10 back.  If you have a lot of revs and med speed and struggle on dry outsides or hate having to play way left after just one game give this ball and drilling a try.  I promise you won't be disappointed........
