This thing hooks! If you are looking for a piece on long and or heavy oil look no further. Great midlane and continues very well.
Much stronger than the fury solid in which is a ball that i love and still save for tourney play.
To make a long story short for the money and the boards this thing covers from med. heavy to heavy oil other companies are going to have a hard time keeping up with this baby.

IT''S GOTTA FIT TO FEEL GOOD

Mine is layed out 4 1/2 " from pin above the fingers.

Out of the box it's too rough for all but the oiliest conditions for many bowlers. I had to adjust the surface to 2000 abralon so I could use it more often. On fresh patterns it's extremely reliable. It does seem to be more angular than most Brunswick solids. This ball is all midlane and finish.

Even with the 600 grit factory finish it's cleaner through the heads than you'd expect, but I adjusted the surface on mine to give me a faster response on the back end. When the lanes dry out you should probably put this one away. I have not tried any polish on it yet. This one is a keeper!

COMMENTS
Carry - This ball hits very hard and keeps the pins low on the deck. The PlaZma cover stock reacts very quickly (well) to friction so, you need to control the breakpoint. If you get this to the dry too early you will get a monster return from the ball. It stores a lot of energy to explode the pins on the deck. This is angular for a solid but, can still leave some flat hits causing corners.

Likes - Works very well on medium fresh patterns. The MaxxX is very responsive to hand changes, speed and angle changes. It is a very versatile ball that takes cover alterations very well. For a ball with such an aggressive cover stock it gets through the heads surprisingly well even when they start to fry a bit. The cover and core combination seem to complement one another very well producing a ball that is fun to throw and watch. It reads the  pattern well.

Dislikes -The box cover is 600 grit and is just way too strong for most shots. Still, it got though the heads fine but used up a lot of energy in the midlane which caused deminished reaction on the backend. took the ball to 1000 Abralon and it really came to life. Based on a couple of cover alterations it seems to me that by taking some cover off the ball 1000 - 2000 Abralon will create a medium condition monster with a lot of versatility.

Overall: This is a great ball and is a lot of fun to watch. It did take some getting used to. Expectations on the ball is that it is a huge monster that is "maxxed out". No doubt there are stronger balls on the market that can create more backend angle than the MaxxX Zone. But, once you work with this piece a little you find a real hidden Gem. Yes, it is very aggressive and strong. The best way I can describe the look on this ball is by comparing it to either the Ultimate Inferno or the Schorchin' only much stronger. Same general look on the lane with an even better read, harder off the spot and more angular. Hard driving arc and very controllable. One caution...be careful that you don't get to the dry to quickly! If you do then fasten your seatbelt! Not the most flashy ball on the planet but, a definite "work horse" as far as I am concerned. It is a great addition to a tournament player's bag and for the casual league bowler as well. Brunswick has a winner here.

Ball 1:
The only pattern that I’ve thrown this ball on so far is Kegel’s Dead Man’s Curve (43ft at 50uL per board) just because of the length and volume. I had an excellent look playing 13 at the laydown to 11 at the breakpoint. Carry only became a factor once it started checking up a bit early. The ball was insanely smooth through the entire lane but still had plenty of energy left at the pin deck. Like I mentioned above, once the corners started popping up, I had to make parallel moves in with more forward roll. This worked until I couldn’t move any further in and still carry due to the early rolling layout wanting to leave weak 10s. But the ball reacts EXACTLY like what I was looking for: smooth, early roll for longer, tougher patterns.

Ball 2:
I bought this ball to help smooth the midlane on the Nationals shot. OOB I knew it would be way too much surface so I took it to 4000 without even throwing the ball first. On the Vegas pattern, I was playing 24 (laydown ) to 9 (breakpoint). The shot was decent but with that surface, it was sliding past the end of the oil line, grabbing hard, and going straight left. That’s not quite what I was looking for on this pattern. I took the ball to the spinner and sanded it to 2000 abralon and finished with a VERY light pass of 1000. With this surface, I saw the midlane I wanted and knew this was the perfect surface for me. On the fresh, I was playing 20 (laydown) to 10 (breakpoint) with a great look, great midlane, and awesome power through the pins. Trying a couple of different lines, I also had an interesting look down the 3 board at this surface with a little extra speed (I say interesting because I didn’t think the shot could be played very well from there). This layout also let me move in and not sacrifice carry like Ball 1 does just because it is so smooth.

If you are looking for a ball with a smooth, predictable roll, this IS your ball. Also, never be afraid to adjust the cover. Even though 4000 was too much length for me on these patterns, I can see myself going 4000 plus polish for some THS in the future and then knocking it back down for tougher patterns. Don’t get me wrong, THIS BALL HOOKS. But it’s a controlled reaction that I can see working at the more aggressive end of any arsenal. It looks to have no problem competing with other companies “Big Boys” when it comes to reaction and I can’t wait to see how it looks on the tournament lanes in Vegas.

Intended Purpose:
I wanted this ball to fill a particular spot in my arsenal, even it ended up being very condition specific.  I wanted an early revving aggressive oiler that would allow some ability to move as the oil line transitioned (I had another MAXXX last season that fit this spot, and had some great success with it).  I placed this drilling to help the cover start up earlier (due to previous experience, I knew that this cover and core could get through the heads pretty easy on its intended purpose).  

Comments:
Carry - This ball hits very hard and keeps the pins low on the deck. Considering the fact that this ball uses a modified version of the Inferno core, carry is quite good.  Due to the higher RG, the ball maintained carry as I moved in with it.

Likes - Works very well on heavy conditions. Cover can be altered for various conditions.  Cover and core seem to be very complimentary.  For an oiler, it maintains energy well.  For me, this ball is very good at blending conditions from side to side and due to the drilling, the ball is good at blending from the front to the back of the lane as well.  

Dislikes –Due to the aggressiveness of the drilling, it is very condition specific.  Due to the surface and drilling, there is definitely a limit to how far I can move and keep carry.

Overall: A good ball for tournament bowlers.  It is smooth and it easy to read when to throw it and when to put it away.  Carry is above average.  It will not wow a lot of people, unless you throw it on its intended condition.  Even though it maintains energy, it is still an oiler and should be thrown as such.  This ball hit what I was looking for when I drilled it up to a tee.  From my perspective, that is all you can ask for.
