The Mastermind Einstein is the newest addition to this line. In my opinion is the best of the 5 overall. The Einstein uses a new cover formulation really changes the shape of this ball.

Mine is drilled 50x4.5x75 with a hole 2.5 inches below my PAP on the VAL. This new cover is very clean and creates a very decent motion down lane. The 2nd most angular in the Mastermind line.

For me this will be the most usable Mastermind of the line. The original was very strong, Genius was cleaner but not quite angular enough to open up my angles. The Intellect was close to the original but was smoother overall. The Scholar is really good. The Scholar and Einstein go great together.

If you liked the Mastermind Line or are looking for a new strong ball that will provide you a great shape off the pattern the Einstein is the best way to go.

Mastermind Einstein

This ball is incredible.  It has the Relativity reactive coverstock-hybrid creating the ultimate flip.  The low RG core extends rotational energy which is great for medium rev guy like myself because it
gives the angular move a boost.  I haven’t had too many balls in my hand that skid easily through the fronts, grab the mid lane, and make a strong continuous angular move to the pocket.  If you get a chance check out my Facebook video and you will see how this ball makes its move, and continues through the pin deck, its incredible to watch.  I have always been a medium rev guy, but this allows me to play with anyone, even the high rev guys.  I absolutely love this ball.

I drilled this ball with a pin under to see the characteristics of the ball.  I drilled this ball with a 75 x 5 x 70.  Its incredible.  Due to the fact that the rotational energy is extended, this ball transfers all of its energy to the pins.  This is why I was so surprised to see the pin under version drive through the pin deck.  In my experiences a lot of my pin under drillings will sometimes lose energy at the pins and deflect more.  Not this ball, it drives through the pocket and gives amazing pin action.  This ball is incredibly versatile for drilling.  I can’t wait to drill up my second one with the pin up, to allow for an even more angular attack to the pocket.  This is without question a benchmark ball by Brunswick.  Feel free to contact me by email with any questions; troy_300_1999@yahoo.com.

I've been a fan of all the Mastermind series but this is by far my favorite. It seems like it has all the characteristics of the previous balls in the line mixed together with all the pros and none of the cons.

Bowler: Lefty, ball speed high, Rev rate high

Drilling: Pin down 1/4 inch below middle finger. OOB surface

Likes: For a very aggressive bowling ball, it's quite smooth. It grabbed in the midlane and didn't lose any power into the pins and just wouldn't overreact. It was just a smooth arc to the pins. It is my benchmark ball for high volume, longer patterns

Dislikes: The chemical smell. It can be a bit overwhelming so don't keep it in a public area

The Mastermind Einstein is the newest release in the Hook line of bowling balls for Brunswick. For me, this ball has the roll characteristics of the original Mastermind, but it’s a lot cleaner through the front and middle parts of the lane. The Einstein will get to the spot and be a lot more responsive where you would see the OG Mastermind wiggle a bit when the lanes started breaking down. I have mine drilled to give me a little extra length and a more snap motion on the backend. I plan on using this during the end of the 1st game through the 2nd game of league bowling. It can easily be the  starting ball for me as well if I lay it out with the pin closer to my PAP.

Review:

I drilled the Mastermind Einstein to be the perfect compliment in my bag to two other balls in the Mastermind series, the Mastermind Intellect and the Mastermind Scholar. I wanted the Einstein to fit between the two balls, and give me a ball that would be aggressive enough to handle a medium-heavy volume, but versatile enough to be used on broken down patterns or shorter, heavier patterns. I got exactly that with this ball.

USBC White Oil Pattern

This house shot is one that I bowl on in two different centers on completely different lane surfaces. In the higher friction house, I was able to start around 14-15 and bump it out to 5-6 with great recovery and good pin carry. I shot 727 for three games with it, migrating about 3 and 3 right through three games. I found the Einstein to be about 2-3 feet longer than the Intellect and conversely 1-2 feet shorter than the Scholar. This set up perfectly for my game and the arsenal as a whole. Overall hook was similar to the Intellect, but the reaction shape was vastly different. The Einstein was much more responsive to the change form oil to dry, with a more violent backend reaction than the Intellect. It was not as violent as the Scholar, which has the largest backend motion in my bag to date. I really enjoyed the comparison to the other two Masterminds, and if you’re looking for that perfect blend of aggressive ball motion and good length, go no further than the Mastermind Einstein.

WTBA Mexico City Oil Pattern

This 45 ft. longer pattern showed me where the true difference between the Einstein and the Intellect lie. The Intellect is the go to ball on this pattern at box finish, as it picks up the mid lane and has a hard continuous move to the pocket. The Einstein I had to play around with various lines and angles to achieve better pin carry, going 229, 226, 219, 208, 256, 258. As you can see, as I broke the pattern down, the Einstein was incredible. The opposite was true of the Intellect on this pattern, it was much better on the fresh oil. Once again, the engineers at Brunswick know what they’re doing, they do not make overlapping balls in a series, and my real world testing proves that point to me without a doubt. If you’re going to bowl on longer formats, with heavier and/or longer oil patterns, both the Mastermind Einstein and Mastermind Intellect should be in your bag at all times.

WTBA Beijing Oil Pattern

This 35 ft. oil pattern was more challenging for the Einstein, as the nature of the cover-core combo wants to pick up sooner than it should for consistent pin carry at box finish. I shot 198. 203, 212, 227 on fresh oil at box finish. But, I took the cover up to 4000 siaair with Royal Polish and achieved much better results. I changed pairs and shot 237, 228, 269, 247 after the cover change. This ball worked incredible with a higher grit underlying finish and polish. It had a similar motion to the Scholar after the surface change, but was still smoother and a tad bit earlier than the Scholar, even after the polish. In my review of the Scholar I covered how incredible that ball was on friction, so no surprise the shorter pattern favored that type of ball reaction, even from the Einstein. On shorter, heavier, blended patterns, you can’t go wrong with either a polished Einstein or a box finish Scholar in your bag.

Summary

I hope you came off as impressed as I was with not only the versatility of the Mastermind Einstein, but also how it fit perfectly into the Mastermind lineup. If you are going from earliest and strongest to longest and most angular you have to go Intellect-Einstein-Scholar in that order. All three should be in any serious players’ bag, and at least one of those should be everyone’s bag at all times. The Einstein is the more proven bench mark type of ball of those three, and if you were going to get only one, I would go with the Einstein. Get all three and lay waste to any pins in your path. My Mastermind Einstein 55x5x45 (pin up) with no weight hole and it is my long pattern killer.  Most of its play has been on 43' Dead Man's Curve in our challenge league where cheating left with and going around everybody downlane gave me the look to average 220+ for the quarter.  To allow the ball to pick up early enough to be usable on fresh, I had sanded it down to 3k and on most nights I am able to stick with it all 4 games by chasing the shot left and adding more tilt.  I would best describe the ball as a strong cover that gives me moderate length with a strong but predictable move at the breakpoint.  Its a ball that keeps looking better the more I chase the shot in and tilt my hand, but is still a viable option when I have to straighten out my angles.  As a player who is most comfortable crossing through the middle of the lane with more open angles, the Mastermind Einstein fits right into my wheelhouse.

In comparison, the Einstein is a little bit cleaner and sharper than the Ultimate Nirvana, allowing me to make a 3/2 right.  The Einstein crosses a similar number of boards to my Melee Hook, but with a stronger change of direction and is a couple boards stronger down lane than my Vandal.  Mastermind Einstein is a great #2 ball for longer/heavier volumes which will be a logical ball choice once your Nirvana/Grudge/Guru series ball begins to struggle around the corner.

This ball I have drilled pin above ring finger, this gives me good length and a strong backend. One of the things that I like the most about this ball is how versatile it is, probably the most versatile ball I have thrown in years. I have had great success with this ball on heavy to medium patterns whether it be THS or Sport shot. This ball gets down the lane with ease and then is hard off the spot, not snappy which is great when bowling on Sport shots. I can use this ball when I'm trying to go a little straighter or even when I want to get in and hook it a lot it loses no energy and still hits hard. This was the firstrunswick ball I had thrown in years and I am difenately impressed and can't wait to throw more.
