Ultimate Inferno
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
Reaction Characteristics
The Ultimate Inferno is a heavy oil ball designed for bowlers who prefer Reactive over Particle coverstocks. The Ultimate Inferno uses the same core as the original Inferno but combines it with a solid 800-grit dull version of Activator coverstock.

Compared to the original Inferno:
-The Ultimate Inferno will match-up better to oily lane conditions, longer patterns and heavy carry down.
-The Ultimate Inferno will match-up better for bowlers who struggle with excessively long ball reaction.
-The Ultimate Inferno will match-up better on heavily oiled - over/under lane conditions.

Brunswick’s new Activator Coverstock has quickly established a reputation for excellence in ball reaction, durability and longevity of ball reaction. On the lanes, Activator Coverstock is clean through the heads with excellent mid-lane recovery and a strong arcing back-end reaction that creates powerful pin action. Owners of the original Inferno have reported that it requires less frequent resurfacing and rejuvenations and is more resistant to cracking than other reactive coverstock balls.

Utility
Out of the box: The Ultimate Inferno is an ideal heavy oil ball for players wanting to use a Reactive coverstock.
When shined: Using Brunswick’s Factory Finish High Gloss Polish the total hooking action of the Ultimate Inferno can be reduced and the arc made more skid/snap.

Reaction Setup
The Ultimate Inferno can be drilled using the standard drilling techniques developed for two-piece balls, see the included drilling instructions for reaction characteristics and layout details.

The Ultimate Inferno is finished with a dull 800-grit surface finish which increases its hooking action in the oil. Dull surface finishes can sometimes hook too early resulting in reduced backend reaction and hitting power. To increase length, polish the surface with Brunswick’s Factory Finish High Gloss Polish.

I personally do not throw this ball but my dad does.  My dad puts a lot of loft on the ball and is a cranker but his ball speed offsets his hook that he could get at a normal ball speed.  I've bowled with him over the last two seasons and what I've seen is he has a tough time carrying corner pins with this ball.  The ball does not finish very well.

Based on what I've seen from his ball reaction, I don't think this is a good ball for him.  My dad's average has ranged from 207-220 since 1999-2000.

I think you can conclude that if you're a cranker who lofts the ball with a lot of ball speed, this would not be a good choice because the ball just doesn't seem to have a big backend but rather has a much smoother arc but the ball does not roll out very quickly for my dad.

I got a full year from my Ultimate.... this may be the best ball Brunswick has made to date. The Scorchin' falls flat in comparison. A great solid!!!

I got this ball about a year ago. For the first twenty games or so, the reaction was uncontrollable, but after that the ball seemed to just die out, only hooking  about five boards. Since my UI didn't hook at all, it ended up in my closet for about four months. For some reason I decided to use it again and I could not believe what I was seeing. This ball seems to just find the pocket no matter where  on the lane I play. I also hits the pins very hard and carries well. The only negative of the UI is that it need oil. I found out the hard way that you can not use this ball in the third game of a league. Shot 278 in the first game, 262 in the second and then a 139. No matter how far I threw the ball out it hooked too early and went right through the head pin and I got tons of splits.

Length: 3 out of 10
Overall Hook: 9 out of 10
Carry: 8 out of 10

I only used this ball on a Sport shot oil pattern. This ball RIP. It is Sanded 800. It stays in control and snap back clean like your throwing it in a Medium lane.

I was a 195-205 average bowler for the longest time and my highest average was 207 almost 10 years ago.  I purchased this ball slightly used on Ebay and this past year I averaged 226.  This ball hits like a freight train!  I highly recommend this ball.
I could barely keep this ball on the lane the first couple of weeks but then they started putting oil on the lanes and the ball starting tracking perfectly.  Great ball but you can't use it on dry conditions.

Obviously I am a little slow, when it comes to jumping on a band wagon! Just bought my first UI four weeks ago. Actually wanted  an Absolute, but my driller didn't have any on hand. Found this UI sitting in a corner, so I purchased it. Best investment I ever made. Now I know what all the hoopla was about, concerning this ball!

Ball: 15#-3oz
Pin: 3"
Topwgt: 2.5OZ
Drilled: Pin high, two inches over the ring finger, no wgt hole

I am not a Big B fan or bowler, but I knew from past history, this ball could handle hvy oil. Got it to take with me to an out of town tournament. They had heavy oil.......and I had the UI! This ball is the shizit!!
Very predictable hard arc. I could swing it with ease and rev it going up the boards. It responded well to release changes, and I shot my three best sets ever, since bowling in this particular tourny. As a testament to how well I bowled with this ball, I cashed in 26 out of 26 brackets!
That was an absolute first for me.

This ball made me a believer. Sorry I took so long to get one. It hits extremely hard, and mixes pins well. Now, I am curious about the Scorchin'
If I get one, I may have to tweak the cover just a little, but it should be just as good. The Ultimate, however is one GREAT ball.

Well after being patient with this ball,I had some success with UI. 16lbs pin next to ring finger. Standing on 20 and going down and in on 15 the ball stayed online and right into the pocket.I played 2 games with this ball before everything started breaking down. 1st game 244 2nd game 195.The 2nd game the UI start taking off a little.I am glad I didn't sell this ball. I only used it 4 games total now . I will keep this one for oilier condition.

(This is NOT the original Ultimate Inferno, this is a review of the PBA Ultimate Inferno Green/Yellow)

RPM Rate: 275-300 RPMs
Speed: 15-16 MPH
Style: Power Stroker
Ball Layout: Pin 5" from PAP.
800 grit. http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k80/poetryinsane/MVC-006F.jpg0

Review: This ball is by far, THE best ball I have ever owned. This ball with this drill, clears the heads with ease, and starts to rev up in the midlane, and takes a right turn at about 45 feet. I am always able to use this ball, no matter how heavy or light the oil is, except extremes..

TESTED ON 32' FLAT PATTERN AND ON A CHRISTMAS TREE PATTERN

Light Oil: I have to stand at about the 25 board, and playing a huge angle, playing the deep inside line, and that ball rockets back to pocket and carries the world. Only time it can get sensative is if you aren't completely accurate with your hand release every shot on this line, it can either jump on you or skid too far. RATING: ****

Medium Oil: This condition is a lot better for this ball, as I can stand about the 20 board, and playing 15 out to the 3 board and get great recovery, with some room for error. RATING: ****1/2

Medium-Heavy Oil: This condition is the best for this ball. I can stand on the 15 board, and play about 10-3, and 12-5 or so, and this ball has quite a bit of recovery and area to play around in. RATING: *****

OVERALL: The more oil, the better this ball does, obviously. The only time it gets hard to use on is either extreme dry lanes or floods. I have used it on a flood and played down and in standing on the 5 board, and it reved up a little late but it wrinkled about 5 boards overall, but still drove through the pocket! If you can be versatile with your speed and hand releases, this ball is just amazing. I recommend this ball to any higher rev or power player that needs a good go-to ball for a decent price!
Thanks for reading!!

Just got this ball last week and I love it. A friend of mine had it sitting in his basement not using it and was nice enough to give it to me.  After having it plugged and re-drilled, all I can say is WOW!  Seems to match up with my game very well.  I find it to be pretty forgiving when I throw a shot thats off a bit, but get it near the pocket and it flat out kills the pins.

BALL WEIGHT: 15 LB 4 OZ
 TOP WEIGHT: 2.6 OZ
 PIN DISTANCE: 1-2"

The drill pattern i have for this ball is the brunswick High Hook/ High Flare, Later Rolling reaction 2L for Medium oil.

I've had this ball for three years now and i would say that this is my favorite ball. Now I'm not a big hooking guy but this ball I can control. Usually dull balls are suppose to have a gradual smooth arc, but this ball is more of a skid/snap reaction for the way I have it drilled. I had it drilled by someone that thought they knew how to drill a ball when I first got this ball. It didn't react anything like it was suppose to. I got it drilled by a guy who knows his stuff and this ball hooks a lot more and it hits a lot harder. Since then, this ball has been great. I think that Brunswick products are very good. They always have worked for me. I think you will be satisfied with any Brunswick product that you buy.

I bought this ball back in 05. My average was 188. I have thrown the ball for about 3 years now and I am averaging 227. I love this ball and would recommend it to anyone. It hits hard and carries well. I recently bought the cell ball and have been throwing that more but when all else fails, I go back to the Inferno.

This ball is on my top 3 favorite balls of all time. I shot my first 800 with it. I know that doesnt justify how good a ball is but let me tell you, this ball gave me such a predictable roll and so much area at the same time, I should have shot higher. The ball revs up nice and "roll" is just the best word for this ball i think. Had it forever, still hits like a truck. Absolutely love this ball. If you havent had one, go find one made in usa and watch your scores go up.
