Ultimate Inferno
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
Reaction Characteristics
The Ultimate Inferno is a heavy oil ball designed for bowlers who prefer Reactive over Particle coverstocks. The Ultimate Inferno uses the same core as the original Inferno but combines it with a solid 800-grit dull version of Activator coverstock.

Compared to the original Inferno:
-The Ultimate Inferno will match-up better to oily lane conditions, longer patterns and heavy carry down.
-The Ultimate Inferno will match-up better for bowlers who struggle with excessively long ball reaction.
-The Ultimate Inferno will match-up better on heavily oiled - over/under lane conditions.

Brunswick’s new Activator Coverstock has quickly established a reputation for excellence in ball reaction, durability and longevity of ball reaction. On the lanes, Activator Coverstock is clean through the heads with excellent mid-lane recovery and a strong arcing back-end reaction that creates powerful pin action. Owners of the original Inferno have reported that it requires less frequent resurfacing and rejuvenations and is more resistant to cracking than other reactive coverstock balls.

Utility
Out of the box: The Ultimate Inferno is an ideal heavy oil ball for players wanting to use a Reactive coverstock.
When shined: Using Brunswick’s Factory Finish High Gloss Polish the total hooking action of the Ultimate Inferno can be reduced and the arc made more skid/snap.

Reaction Setup
The Ultimate Inferno can be drilled using the standard drilling techniques developed for two-piece balls, see the included drilling instructions for reaction characteristics and layout details.

The Ultimate Inferno is finished with a dull 800-grit surface finish which increases its hooking action in the oil. Dull surface finishes can sometimes hook too early resulting in reduced backend reaction and hitting power. To increase length, polish the surface with Brunswick’s Factory Finish High Gloss Polish.

This ball is a monster, First week with it was good.
I shot 300 last night with it. Ball clears the front great
and makes a strong arc to the pocket. It is forgiving as well
great ball for med to heavy oil.

Had this ball for 2 months now, previously posted in early April. Currently averaging around 200 mark, nearly 30 pins above previous average. Low series of 494 (dont think it was the ball, I was all over the place that night!!) High of 674
Does leave the odd 7-10 on solid pocket hits, but this is more than made up for by the high number of light hits it carries.

Brunswick Ultimate Inferno

The ball being drilled was 3” pin out with 3.00 oz top weight.

The drilling chosen was pin 3 3/4” from PAP and Mb 5” from PAP ( approximately 65 degrees); pin is above fingers, 3 1/4" above grip midline. Weight hole past axis pitched away.

Bowler Information:
Track diameter is 10 1/2.
PAP is measured at 5 1/4 over and 3/8" up.
Average ball speed (foul line to head pin) is 17 mph.
Axis rotation is typically 45 degrees
Initial rev rate is typically 300 rpm, "Tweener"

I gave the Utimate Inferno a long amount of time of throwing the ball including State Tournament and ABC in Reno before posting a review on it.

Everything Brunswick wrote on the ball is true. The main item is the longivity of ball reaction with this ball. 40+ games on the ball it still reacts and looks like day one.

We as bowlers know that all reactives will perform well on a house shot/block if you want to call it that. This ball reacts well when the lanes are tough. From insides or outsides, from strokers to crankers, this ball excels over the others from any manufacturer including anything that Brunswick even put out.

Clean through the fronts, strong midlane with a controlled hard finish on the backends. Easy polished or maintaining factory sand is easy to do with this ball. From wood to synthenic, this is the ball.

At State Tournament this ball on tough conditions allow me to win "Two" State Titles. At ABC in Reno I used the Ultimate for all 9 games. Shot 698 in team and an 1961 All events, even from 4th to 5th arrow, factory sanded.

Great product and a great choice for you, I would recommend it.

Thanks for reading my review.

I thought this ball was too much out of the box but when I had the front 11 and a 744 series at ABC's I changed my mind. Drilled this one up 5x5 and it was way too much on the house condition, I could have added 4 more loads of oil to the outside and not seen any out of bounds with this one. Out of box condition was perfect for ABC's in Reno, I tried everything in my bag and didn't have any great consistent reactions until I got this one out. If you need too much or like playing in the juice on tournament patterns then this ball has your name all over it.

Good Luck!

I bought the Ultimate Inferno the week before my first 5-game tournament and finished in the middle of the field with only 5 days of practice with it. The following month, and hundreds of strikes later, I finished just out of cashing range. My overall impression of this ball is out of this world. I'm a mid-range stroker, but can put some revs on the ball. For me, the reaction is clean and CONSISTENT throughout any condition. It skids clean through the heads, picks up the roll firmly but not agressively through the pines and bites good and hard in the backend without losing control or rolling out. My first set with it was a 714 with the factory finish at 800 grit. I was rolling on a mid-day friday condition (medium to medium light), playing 33 out to 10 and biting hard. After throwing on a quick coat of ReactaShine the line tightened about 5 boards, but didn't lose any of it's backend reaction. A few weeks later I rolled my first 300,(hmmm...I wonder why?), and a 745. I love this ball.

If you're looking for a good tournament ball...this would be a good choice and well worth every pennie. But that's just what I think.

This is THE BEST BALL EVER MADE! I love this ball. I am going to buy two or three more just to save and drill later.

The ball is very forgiving. It gets down the lane. I am able to throw it at a very average speed and get it down the lane with no problems. I have only not been able to use this ball one time. It is a very good all around ball for me.
I have had many 650's to 700's with this ball including 296 and 3 279's
I have thrown about 70 games with the ball and it might have lost a little of its bang but it is still hits harder than any ball I have ever thrown right out of the box. Thanks, Brunswick I cant wait to throw the Intense Inferno.

Ball: 4x3.5 layout, tried many different surfaces

Lane Conditions: various

Hook: I am probably the only person that has had a problem with this ball not moving much. Factory surface it did not move much at all, similiar to what the Dyno Anomaly did. I tried polish, surface then polish, I tried everything, it just did not move much for me. 6.0

Control: If you needed a ball to be under control this was it. Smooth breakpoint, not very strong in the backends. HOWEVER, it would be easily controlled but did nothing else either. It controlled virtually every part of the lane, the heads, the mids and the backends.  8.0

Hit: When a line was found that would help the ball finish well it would hit VERY strong. It kept the pins low. I would not carry high or light hits well though. 8.5

Readability: If I was using this ball to read the lanes I would have assumed that there was always a ton of oil. No exageration when I say that it did next to nothing. 5.0

Overall: Not a terrible ball, but not much better than a terrible ball either. The talk of me having possibly gotten a bad one arose, and that is certianly possible. I put the identical layout on this that I had on my Raging Inferno and the Raging was FAR stronger.

OVERALL RATING: 6 Very disappointed in what this ball had to offer.

I have bowled 10 games with this ball ready, and i love it so far but it is kinda frustrating. I am a 170 average bowling with medium revs and medium speed. This is kinda funny, when i got the ball from a ball league, i had it drilled and after i bowled 1 game with it and bowled a 150 or so on synth lanes with alot of oil, then the next day i went back to have the thumb hole opened up and bowled a 246 and the lanes were still oily. I subed for a guy on wood lanes and my first game was a 114 and trying to get used to the lanes, and then i moved all the way to the left and i bowled 219.. Today i went to a different house with synth lanes and bowled 150's, so the ball doesnt that house, but on wood lanes oh man does the ball ever move. I put the ball into a ball machine thinking i can shine it up and it just put a coating on it, but i didnt like that so i just put the ball in hot water and dawn to get the coating off and then put a ball cleaner on it. So now i am waiting till i bowl on my normal league on wood lanes to see how the ball will react again. Rite now i am not sure which way i like it, but kinda leaning towards dull, but anyone got any suggestions. I like bowling straight up on the right side of the lane, i dont really like standing all the way on the left.

But all in all i love this ball and i think Brunswick did a great job on makeing it.

Got this ball with a deal on my summer league where you pay a little extra a week and at the end of the league you get the ball.  This is a good hooking ball.  On heavy lanes the ball does exactly what it's supposed to do, cut through the oil and find the pocket.  By the third game though it is time to put her away because once the lanes start drying out, this ball will turn too much.  For me this ball does not work on flooded lanes.  One of the houses I bowl in the lanes are always flooded, and this ball has a hard time turning on it.  Very good ball though and worth picking up.  Also, make sure you take care of it.  This ball soaks up oil like mad so it needs to be cleaned often.

OH MY GOODNESS!
This is the greatest ball I think I've ever thrown.  I'm just mad at my pro shop, cause he didn't sell it to me last year....
Three weeks into our league and I have bought 4 new balls.  Columbia: Bully, Ricochet rebound, Track: Rule, And this one.  And, while I like all the other balls listed, the Ultimate is the only ball that seems to come back from anywhere.  I've droped my shoulder, and almost threw it ithe gutter, it comes back, go outside my mark, it comes back, throw it over my mark, Goondnight pins.

This is what I can tell you about myself and the ball.  Started with a 4"pin, and had it drilled agressive, which usually means big hook.  I throw at 16-17Mph, and I'd say I have med revs.

The ball is simply amazing.  I can even rave about how well I can control it  for spares.  Last night I only had 5 opens, with three of them being splits.  For a bowler who is currently only a 186 avg, this is good.  It is especially a huge impovement over last year.

Everyone that uses this ball loves it.  I highly recommend this ball for anyone.

thanks,
breezyjr

This is probably the most easy revs and control ever put in a bowling ball.   Just needs a smidgen of head or midlane oil to get it down the lane.  It is a hard ball to put up.  Wants to roll out easy, but still stay in the pocket.  About your 2nd or 3rd soft ten pin, put it up.
