Ultimate Inferno
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
Reaction Characteristics
The Ultimate Inferno is a heavy oil ball designed for bowlers who prefer Reactive over Particle coverstocks. The Ultimate Inferno uses the same core as the original Inferno but combines it with a solid 800-grit dull version of Activator coverstock.

Compared to the original Inferno:
-The Ultimate Inferno will match-up better to oily lane conditions, longer patterns and heavy carry down.
-The Ultimate Inferno will match-up better for bowlers who struggle with excessively long ball reaction.
-The Ultimate Inferno will match-up better on heavily oiled - over/under lane conditions.

Brunswick’s new Activator Coverstock has quickly established a reputation for excellence in ball reaction, durability and longevity of ball reaction. On the lanes, Activator Coverstock is clean through the heads with excellent mid-lane recovery and a strong arcing back-end reaction that creates powerful pin action. Owners of the original Inferno have reported that it requires less frequent resurfacing and rejuvenations and is more resistant to cracking than other reactive coverstock balls.

Utility
Out of the box: The Ultimate Inferno is an ideal heavy oil ball for players wanting to use a Reactive coverstock.
When shined: Using Brunswick’s Factory Finish High Gloss Polish the total hooking action of the Ultimate Inferno can be reduced and the arc made more skid/snap.

Reaction Setup
The Ultimate Inferno can be drilled using the standard drilling techniques developed for two-piece balls, see the included drilling instructions for reaction characteristics and layout details.

The Ultimate Inferno is finished with a dull 800-grit surface finish which increases its hooking action in the oil. Dull surface finishes can sometimes hook too early resulting in reduced backend reaction and hitting power. To increase length, polish the surface with Brunswick’s Factory Finish High Gloss Polish.

Pin below the fingers on the grip line, and cg below, slightly to the right.

Well finally was able to get one of these and so far it has been impressive.  I don't think I have ever owned a solid resin and was curious just how strong it would be.  I wanted an even rolling ball considering I have alot of hand and don't need something crazy on the backend.  Ball rolls so hard.  I've never had a ball pick up so hard.  It's strong midlane roll and continous backend make it great for alot of oil.

I drilled this one up 2 1/2 pin to pap 12 o'clock from cg. I bowl fast, stroker with low to medium revs on a med burnt out wood centre with oil in the middle drier from 7 out about 38' with varying backends. The centre is overdue for a resurface going to synthetic in Dec so lanes are patchy. I have bowled probably 60 games with this ball and let me just say that it is a great consistant performer. High series 701 which is good on lanes that are nothing short of tough. No block here lanes change every third ball in the triples i bowl in. Stand 25 board aim 17 swing out to 5 and the ball just arcs back into the pocket. Great hit light kicks 4 pins when you go high. Throw it wide and it keeps coming back there is no out of bounds. Doesnt like carrydown much when i get that condition have trouble getting to the pocket. Overall a great ball for med to heavy conditions as long as you have clean backends.

One of the best bowling balls there is...it has a high amount of reaction with the pins even if i hit the head pin, the reaction will ram down the pins..my average increased to about 100 pins difference...now i bowl 220 average.

Ok all first off I am a huge Track fan only thing I will throw has a T on it. A good friend of mind kept telling me that I needed one of these. So reluctantly with the past expierence I had with brunswick I got one. I wanted something a little stronger than my cruch which is drilled for midlane because of my speed and revs. The crunch has the pin under ring and cg slightly kicked out no x hole the pin was out 1and 1/4 inches so I got an ultimate with a 1 pin and drilled it almost identical pin under ring cg kicked out a little more. I have bowled with it in my 4 leagues 616,649,650,671. The 616 was on a second shift trio with a ton of oil in the heads so they don't break down about 110 units of amf reactor oil. the 671 was on brand new anvil lane just installed in august with a sort narrow christmas tree. One word VERSITLE. This ball allows me to start out around 23 with my feet out to about 8 at the break point and then when they dry up i can get into about 38 over 23 to 14 at breakpoint. The carry is also very good as long as you don't get to angular then it wants to leave the 10 or the 8. Now my ball speed 21+ and rev rate 490+ on the average doesn't let me get in real deep at most houses I bowl at because because 2 are amf that use the "launch pad" and that makes the ball go very straight. But I would Honestly rate this ball very high maybe a 9 to 9.5 only draw back is the no carry with the angle I can generate, but then again that happens with all of my equipment.

I got this ball back in October and let me tell you I used to be a 150-180 average bowler.. with this thing..my average has not once dropped below 215. I shot my first 700 series.. 799.. and my first 300.. got 2 of them.. This has got to one of the best balls i have ever thrown. I am a cranker.. (lefty also)and I throw 20 to 5.. and this ball recovers as nicely as my Thrash. I might add another one to my bag.. being that I am goin Pro at the end of the year. It has not had any major adjustments.. still in Box condition. this is the BEST BALL EVER MADE BY BRUNSWICK. PERIOD. you can get it for about $135.00 shipped to anywhere in the united states  from http://www.buddiesproshop.com

I have had my UI since 11/26.  Used that night and had a 660, on a middle oil condition.  I bought this ball for thick, long oil at another house.  I have bowled 4 Tuesdays and have yet to get 600.  I am a lefty, and the ball looks to be drilled 4L, the pin is just above my ring finger about 1 1/4".
It seems to break well in the heavy oil, but it hits flat.  A solid hit will seem to ring the 7 pin.  I had the same light hit 3 times this week, and the ball carried the 5 pin, the head pin carried the 6 and 10 pins, but the 7 pin stood on this light hit.  I can not find a line.  I do have about 5 flares.
Took it to the house I bought the ball at last night.  He seems to be the best around.  I told him my complaint, but he has shorter oil, so I bowled 206 and 224.  I need help.  I did clean this ball twice with Clean N Dull, but not in the last 12 games.  I do have some liquid sandpaper.  Will anything help make this ball hook?  Would the 1L layout work better?

Although this is only my first review, I think it is a good one.  I may be young but I know a good ball when I see one, and this is definitely NOT one of my top 10!!!!  You may think that after you whack those high scores out you are the man.  268 my first game by the way, but I have had this ball for about 4 months and it drinks oil like I drink pop.  My pin is about 1 1/2 inches from my index at about 25 degrees, and my top lift is 2 1/4.  It rolled good for a while but I think it is going to cause some house bowlers some problem in the long run.

Well this is my only none columbia ball that i use now and im not impressed with it.  left factory finish on it and it hooked a lot.  what i noticed was that the when the lane started transistion i couldnt stay ahead of them.  this ball is good only for high oil or long oil.  do not shine.  this ball does not skid flip.  it skids.  and then when the break down it hooks early and then skids.  basically, i keep it for tournments as an option when im lost.

Before purchasing this ball I was never much of a Brunswick fan. That all changed when i got the ultimate inferno. It has a 1.5" pin below ring finger with CG stacked below. The ball is simply amazing. Probably the best ball that I have had in some time. One word that comes to mind when I try to describe this ball is "smooth". So far the only pattern that I have thrown it on is a house shot but I can't wait to get it out on a sport pattern. I just recently added a bit of polish to the ball and found that I like it even more. So far with this ball I have bowled series of (714, 704, 653, 691, 748, 804). Since having the ball I wipe it off with a towel after every shot and clean it with a strong all purpose cleaner after each shift. The coverstock remains in excellent condition. I have found no signs of a loss in reaction. I will give it a few months and see if i notice any changes. Overall this ball is excellent for medium-heavy oil. Just know when to put it away. I now know what all the hype is about with this ball. I give it an A+. Good job Brunswick.

Had this ball for 12 months now and have posted 2 previous reviews, and in its out of the box condition it put 15 pins on my average over 10 months. BUT!!!

2 months ago I had this thing polished and I have averaged 210 with it ever since, which means that it has now added 30 pins to my average!!

Can't praise it highly enough, it even earned me a bronze medal in the World Firefighter Games. Thank You again Brunswick.

What can I say that hasn't already been said about the Ultimate Inferno?? All I can do is put my $0.02 in.

Lets see, I've drilled 3 of these now and been happy with the results from all of them.

UI#1 - Pin 4.5 inches from PAP, above fingers, small hole on PAP. (60deg)

This ball is STRONG. It gets down the lane if there is enough up front, and laughs at any carrydown on the backend. I normally use this one with a bit of surface (maybe 800 or 1000 grit + Neo Tac Hook-It) and it rolls really strong. Its best used when there is some oil down lane or it will start up too early, and don't even think of using this on dry heads.

UI#2 - Pin 4.5 inches from PAP, above fingers, no hole. (90deg)

This one I use with some polish to go longer than #1, which it does. Using Black Magic + you can get about 10 feet more out of it! I like to use Neo Tac Renew-It on top of 1200 paper to give more length and a similar backend reaction.

UI#3 - Pin 5.25 inches from PAP, below fingers, hole 1" before VAL.

This picks up at a spot right between #1 and #2 and rolls much more evenly. Great for fresh snappy lanes to give extra control while still delivering strength on oil. The pin placement keeps the ball from hooking too early.

The Ultimate Inferno is a very versatile ball if used correctly for the condition. It rolls and never quits, making it a natural choice for carrydown and well used on a variety of patterns with enough oil. The coverstock tunes so easily and the low RG core gives the best roll on the market. Truly an excellent ball.

Yep, what else needs to be said. I have this and the Original (bought them both at the same time). The pin on both balls is just above the middle of the fingers with the CG in the middle of the grip just kicked out to the right a hint. The Ultimate has a weight hole to flare it more and the Original does not. I think it is a 5 1/2 inch drilling (from pap). Love both, they hit good, they roll up good, nuff said. I'm very happy with moving to Brunswick. I use the Ultimate on med heavy and heavy shots, Original on med light to lighter or burnt-up shots. If your driller is qualified and knows Brunswick, you should get a lot out of this ball. Cleaning it is important. Make sure you use a good ball cleaner after ever 3 to 9 game set. Otherwise you will see a decrease in performance.

11-12-05 Update

Still have this ball and it's still a rolling bomb. I did see a significant decrease in performance due to use and oil absorbtion. I did two things to combat this. I "baked" the ball per B-Wicks recommendation for their coverstocks since I was unable to find a shop with a rejuvenator to bleed out the oil. And I put this on my spinner and resurfaced it back to box finish. Once I did these two things this ball came back in "Brand New" condition. I used it on a medium house shot and was able to play 20 to 10 with speed and had no problems with it turning the corner, and I used it on a heavy oil house shot and had to play a straighter 15 or 12 to 10 belly with speed that still killed the pocket every time. I've had the Infernos longer than any balls I've ever had and they still work great getting into a full year. Once cleaned and\or resurfaced they come back like new. I've added an Absolute Inferno and an Impulse Zone and I have a ball for about any condition I see with the exception of PBA or sport shots (that's due to the layouts of the balls). All the B-Wick equipment hits well and it lasts a long time. I have plenty of games on all 4 balls and when properly maintained they act as new. If you don't have an Ultimate and you see a few heavy to med heavy houses, get one, get it drilled properly and you won't go wrong.

I just got my UI yesterday got it home put a nice polish to it. I have allot of revs and my ball speed is around 18.8mph. The house I bowl in has allot of head oil and the bookends are flying. So I used it in my Monday night league and let me tell you even with a coat of polish on the ball this thing hooked like a monster.

That said the only problem I had with the ball is that it hit to damn hard. Let allot of corner pins and a couple of 8 and 9 pins. This ball overall though is a great ball nice smooth roll and let me tell once it hit that back it turns on the left turn single and goes. It will be a great tournament ball.

After being out of bowling awhile I invested some good money in the x-factor ace and triple xtreme, don't get me wrong, these are really good balls and some people will say it's not the ball but the person throwing it. I agree, to a certain extent. But, Storm just doesn't work for me.

So i decided to buy the UI and I'm sooo happy I did. I got it drilled for max hook and flare and it didn't dissapoint at all. I didn't tweak the surface at all either. This ball rolls so smooth and revs so nicely, great arc to the pocket. That's why Brunswick works for me is because of the excellent midlane read. Without exaggeration and not to knock my hybrid dirty bomb but this ball just absolutely crushes the rack. Send it to the right of my mark and this bad boy comes screaming back to the hole, even if I tug it left the ball still manages to hold it's line really well. This is exactly the kind of ball I've been looking for and I will give it the Ultimate compliment, it reminds me of my original Blue Hammer. Tell me, was there a better ball in it's time than the Blue?

I have had my Ultimate for about 10 months and my game has gone to a different level. My balls"s drill make it very versatile, meaning that I cant play the straight, the medium or deep line with it. The ball has respond very well in different houses, patterns and even country"s. The ball works either dull or polished and this is the " MUST HAVE BALL " on the market
