« on: September 11, 2008, 04:44:33 AM »
Brunswick is starting a promotion on 9-15-08.  They will offer Gas rebate cards on the purchase of one of their line of bowling balls.

$100 Gas Rebate Card on the purchase of a Twisted Fury Solid, or Twisted Fury, or Smash Zone, or Ultra Zone.

$40 Gas Rebate Card on the purchase of a Swarm, or a Copperhead, or a Sidewinder.

Now this is an excellent promotion starting at the beginning of the new season.

Contact your local pro shop for details.

So you have to send in 10 different receipts, each one 30 days apart, and basically have to wait 10 months to redeem the entire rebate?

Something is better than nothing, but this seems like a large pain to redeem. I'll be shocked if more than 25% of buyers actually redeem all their vouchers. Or is that the point?

I wouldn't have a problem with it.  What is so hard?  Once a month you take a $10 card and go buy some gas.  Just like Once a week I take that $3 off coupon and go buy a pizza.

Thats not what it says. You buy gas, send in the receipt within 7 days, and get a check in the mail in 8-10 weeks. One can request one $10 check every 30 days. So it takes 12 months to get $100 in free gas, $10 at a time. If you lose the vouchers, forget to send them in, or send them in without waiting 30 days then you're out of luck.

Sorry, but this is the single most difficult to redeem rebate that I've ever seen.

Are you planning on being upfront with your customers about the terms and conditions or are you just going to sell the ball and let them figure it out for themselves?

Good point,  I agree with you that it looks like a lot of trouble.  However my wife does this all the time, it's a women thing, I guess.  She fills out these rebates and mails they in and in a few weeks, the checks come.  Sometimes she has to have them mailed to other addresses.  Again, no problem.

Now as for pointing this out to my customers.  Yes I think that would be a good thing to do.  Yes it may take a little effort to get this, but for a $100 in gas,  it is worth it.

I'm glad we can agree on something. I've done lots of rebates in the past, but I've always received my rebate in one check.

My biggest problem is the fact that you have to send in 10 receipts, separately and 30 days apart, and get the money $10 at a time. I'm sure a lot of people will forget to send them in after the first month or two. Others will send them in all at once, and they will be declared null and void.

I just hate having to read fine print and feel like I've been mislead. The headline on the flyer doesn't say:

"Buy a Brunswick ball and get up to (10) $10 checks, once a month, if and only if you send us a gas receipt and follow a bunch of other rules"

Well you sound like me,  too much trouble,  but that is what the little women is for,  and she loves doing things like that.

Is this valid for online purchases as well? (buddies, bowlingball.com, etc, etc)

Certainly the rebate isn't the SOLE reason one chooses a ball. But if you're considering buying one of the qualifying balls it's a bonus. How long does it take to send in a gas receipt? If you don't like the way the program works, don't use it.
Is there another manufacturer offering anything like this? I'm not aware of one. Maybe one will jump on the bandwagon and offer something better, but until now, zilch!

Let see, Buy a ball, fill out some paperwork. Slap a $0.39 stamp on 10 envelopes, send them in one month apart and Brunswick sends you a $10 check each time!?! Sounds like a no brainer to me. Other than spending the $3.90 on postage to recieve $100 is a heck of return on investment. I wish all my investments were half this good.

I agree,  seems pretty easy.  But I couldn't help but notice, I think you sir, pay all your bills online.  But I agree with what you said.  It's a no brainer.

I think if you slap on a 39 cent stamp, the letter will come back to you for "insufficient postage".

My bad. $0.42 on each envelope. Still only adds up to $4.20 total. Still a great return on investment.

We have spoken with Brunswick and this will be valid for online purchases from our site. I would assume all other online shops will be the same however I can't speak with 100% certainty for anyone but us.
