brunswick pro staffer chris barnes defeated tommy jones to capture the 2003 oronamin/c japan cup. this is the first tournament of the 2003-2004 pba tour. the first tournament stateside will start october 12. lokk for chris barnes to have a banner year using brunswick equipment. late last week brunswick announced adding brad angelo and michael fagan to their pro staff. angelo was the 2002-2003 pba rookie of the year. fagan throws a power ball and looks to be a great player in the near future. good luck and congratulations !

Congrats to Mr. Barnes, an excellent bowler!!
But what has Michael Fagan and Brad Angelo ever won (besides PBA ROTY) that Brunswick bean-counters decided to offer them a contract?
I remain amazed that Brunswick still had the gall (AKA corporate stupidity) to get rid of Walter Ray and I am not especially a fan of his! Unless he gets some injury or the PBA puts out some anti-WRW oil pattern (as if they could), I would expect him to master everyone and everything AGAIN!

Charlest, Fagan and Angelo are the future of the PBA tour. Just wait until you see them bowl before you act like they don't deserve a sponsorship. They will be on some shows this year and they are awesome to watch.

Despite their potential awesomeness and I understand if you know and them have seen them how you may feel about them, compared to Mr. Bowling II, whether or not they "deserve" sponsorship can not be debated.
Of course, Brunswick must be kicking themselves royally since they let him go.
Wish Brunswick's bean-counters were as good as their ball designers and chemists are currently. (Hmmm, maybe they hired some of AMF's cast-offs?)

it's true, angelo and fagan are the future of the pba. however, current brunswick pro staffers chris barnes and parker bohn III are a threat to win any tournament they enter. they are simply that good. the management at brunswick who let williams, jr., aulby, jaros, ward, etc., go are no longer working for the company. obviously williams, jr., would have commanded a high salary but you'd think having THE best player on the planet on your staff would be a higher priority.

Actually, Angelo was with Brunswick last year as well, but not under FULL contract. Previously he had a contract with Storm as an "Amatuer Staffer".
As far as marketing, there are many schools of thought, and playing "devil's advocate", maybe they felt "X" amount of dollars was better spent on 2 up and coming players rather than 1 superstar. I am by far no "Big B" booster, but maybe it's looking at something that we are not.
This is not taking anything away from WRW, who has proven on the lanes he is, and has been for many years, a consistently elite player, who deservedly wins BOTY.

NOBODY could afford to sign walter ray to a contract now.
