Ever shoot a 300 and not win the game?

Weird STUFF!! It happened to me last night in our scratch league. We bowl second shift so sometimes there's still a great shot and other times it can be ugly.

Anyway, I was bowling against a friend and we had both found a great line to the pocket. About halfway through the game I went to him and jokingly said "hey, how about we just end this game in a tie?"  He agreed and we kept on striking through the ninth.

Before the tenth frame I asked him if he wanted to go first, or should we trade shots? We decided to trade shots. I went first, he went second, and so on. After I struck on the 12th ball I/we didn't celebrate until after he went Brooklyn and carried.

It was great fun, and I honestly wanted him to keep striking, because I wanted to be able to say that I was part of a rare thing when two guys bowling head-to-head both rolled 300 games against each other on the same game.

On a side note, we also tied the second game at 221, but an ugly split for me in the last frame of game 3 kept me from winning series, but I didn't care a bit. He won 757 to 743. I also didn't throw a single strike during warm-ups. I kept leaving the 10 pin, or a 7 pin, but decided to move left and swing the ball more and it ended up working. I used the Ultra Zone polished with Snake Oil.

Anyone else see this happen before? Just curious...

Congrats to you and your friend!

A few years ago, my teammate shot 300 and her opponent shot 299. That was the only point we won that game (scratch five person teams / match points).

I lost some brackets the third game shooting 299, that hurt a little.

My team lost one time when I had shot 300, they ragged on me cuz I didn't shoot 317.  THEN we would have won!!  Sheesh...

Mike,

Surely a man of your talents could have gotten a 317. I, on the other hand, am a mere mortal so I had to stop at 300...

One of my previous teammates has had a 300 as well as several 700s and an 800 in a league last year.  His team lost more games than they won, including the ones where he shot 800 and 300.

With my first 300 my team needed me to strike out just to win the game.
The same series, my team needed me to strike out the last game to tie and I then would have shot 805.  I finished with an 804.  We lost that third game.

High game 300
High series 804
High triplicate 774
High average 221
best game. when I was 6 I bowled a 158

Has anyone had this happen? it was back in 2003 i had practiced a game before league shot my first ever 300, well first game in league i shot a 299 on to the second game had the first 11 thinking im not going to leave a 10 pin this time and really turned it and went nose for a 295 oh well at least the last game i had enough for an 800 series so all in all not a bad night if only i had not of practiced that 894 would have looked good.

Was doing doubles pot bowling after league one night, and I shot 300.  My partner shot about 140 and we lost.  The part that is funny to me is about halfway through the game, he checked to see who the partners were, and then looked on the screen and comes over to me and says, we still have a chance.  I burst out laughing cuz this guy has 5 out of 6 frames as opens.  It really sucked at the time cuz it should have been an easy 50 bucks or so, but now I'm known as the guy who has shot 300 and lost.

in 1979 I bowled a doubles match... 100,100 and 200 per man

I shot          279, 289
My partner shot 299, 279
       Total    578  568  1136

and we loose everything....

They shot:

                289, 299
                300, 279
                589  578 1167

In league I shot 821 for the 1st 3 and then shot 279 for 1100 and lost all points in a peterson point league.

As a friend said to me... some days your pigeon... other days your the statue. I have been the statue more often than the pigeon in my bowling days.

I subbed last night. The anchor on the team we bowled shot 300 first game and they lost by 86 pins.
