First of all, I match up really well with the Zone line. My Blast Zone joined the Red Zone, Vapor Zone, and Violet and Red Pin Classic Zones. The Red, Vapor, and Blast we drilled similarly for the same reaction shape, and on the Ultra, Brian decided I needed something a bit sharper. The Ultra was drilled with a weaker pin and mass bias placement. With the box surface, it was a little jumpy and over/under, so he took it to 1000 abralon, and hello kitty . . It's an absolute monster of a ball the likes of which I haven't thrown in a while. It feels like cheating, it really does. There are lots of balls I have that I can throw and say, "That's a good shot" and know I have a great chance that the pins will all go down. With this ball, I can expect them to go down, and they will. If this ball hits the pocket, they fall. I haven't left a 10 with it yet. I haven't had this much confidence in a ball before. And for a thinker that sometimes lets my mind get in the way, ala Chris Barnes, that's really something.
It clears the heads easily, revs up HARD in the midlane, and very predictably snaps on the backend. It's not a backend monster, but I think that's only because of the strong midlane move, which keeps the entry angle from being too steep. It works just as well from straight up 7 as it does from 4th arrow. One thing I did notice is that ball motion is a lot nicer with a little belly. Straight up 7 was good, but when I started going 8-6, it really went nuts. I haven't had to play inside with it yet, but probably won't have to here in town as easily as it clears the heads. It allows me to play in the oil where nobody else will get the hit. I'm gonna go Lane 1 on people about the Ultra . . More honor scores, hits harder, will raise your average, blah blah. I'm brewing the kool-aid by the truckload, who wants some?
